Heusden-Zolder is a town in Belgium. It is located in the Limburg province, close to the city of Hasselt. On January 1, 2006, Heusden-Zolder had a total population of 30,769 people. The town covers an area of about 53.23 square kilometers.
Heusden-Zolder was formed on January 1, 1977. This happened when two older towns, Heusden and Zolder, joined together. Today, the area includes parts that used to be Heusden, like Heusden center, Berkenbos, and Eversel. It also includes parts that were Zolder, such as Zolder center, Boekt, Viversel, Bolderberg, and Lindeman.
Heusden-Zolder is home to many people from all over the world. This is because of a coal mine that used to be in Zolder. In the 1960s, Belgian coal mines needed more workers. So, people from other countries were asked to come and work near the mines. Even after the Zolder mine closed in 1992, most of these families stayed. This makes Heusden-Zolder a very diverse and multicultural place.
