Highbush Peak is a tall mountain in Alaska, standing at about 4,669 feet (which is about 1,423 meters) high! It's part of the amazing Chugach Mountains, located near Anchorage. This mountain is found inside the huge Chugach National Forest. It's about 36 miles (58 km) southeast of downtown Anchorage and just 5 miles (8 km) east of the Alyeska Resort and Girdwood area.
The water from the peak flows into Turnagain Arm. The mountain got its unofficial name because of the highbush cranberry plant. Other mountains nearby also have names related to berries, like Lowbush Peak, Lingon Mountain, Nagoon Mountain, Blueberry Hill, and Bearberry Point.
What's the Weather Like at Highbush Peak?
Highbush Peak is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very long, cold, and snowy winters. The summers, however, are usually mild.
Temperatures can drop really low, sometimes below -20 °C (-4 °F). With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, below -30 °C (-22 °F)! Because of this cold climate, there's even a small, unnamed glacier on the east side of the mountain.
