Mountain Climate

Weather Patterns

Lingon Mountain is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very long, cold, and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild.

Weather systems from the Gulf of Alaska hit the Chugach Mountains. The mountains force the air upwards. This process is called orographic lift. It causes a lot of rain and snow to fall on the mountain.

Temperatures and Glaciers

During winter, temperatures can drop very low. It can feel colder than −20 °C (or −4 °F) with the wind chill. This cold climate helps a small, unnamed glacier form on the mountain's south side.
