Hipólito "Poli" Rincón Povedano (born on April 28, 1957) is a Spanish former football player. He was a talented striker, known for scoring goals.

Poli Rincón played most of his 13-year career for two famous Spanish clubs: Real Madrid and Real Betis. During his time in La Liga, Spain's top football league, he played 239 games and scored 81 goals.

He also played for the Spanish national team 22 times. He even represented Spain at the 1986 FIFA World Cup!

Poli Rincón's Club Journey

Poli Rincón was born in Lavapiés, a neighborhood in Madrid, Spain. He started his football journey in the youth academy of Real Madrid. This is where young players learn and train to become professional footballers.

While at Real Madrid, he was loaned out to other teams to gain experience. He played for CD Díter Zafra, Recreativo, and Valladolid. He made his first team debut for Real Madrid in October 1979, scoring two goals in a game! However, he didn't play many games for Real Madrid's main squad.

In 1981, Rincón moved to Real Betis, a club in Andalusia. This is where he truly shined! In his second season with Betis (1982–83), he scored 20 league goals. This amazing achievement earned him the Pichichi Trophy, an award for the top scorer in La Liga.

He became a legend at Real Betis, scoring a total of 93 goals for the club in all competitions. Poli Rincón retired from playing football in 1989 when he was 32 years old.

After retiring, he stayed involved in football. In 2004, he worked as a director of football for Xerez CD, another club. He also became a sports commentator, sharing his football knowledge on radio stations like Cadena SER and Cadena COPE.

Representing Spain

Poli Rincón played for the Spanish national team 22 times and scored 10 goals. His first game for Spain was on April 27, 1983, in a qualifying match for the European Championship. He scored his first international goal just 15 minutes after coming onto the field!

One of his most famous matches was on December 21, 1983. In this game, Spain played against Malta in a Euro 1984 qualifier. Spain won with an incredible score of 12–1, and Poli Rincón scored four of those goals!

Even though he scored so many goals, he wasn't chosen for the Euro 1984 finals. However, two years later, he was part of the squad for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
