Geography of Holland, Vermont
Holland covers an area of about 38.2 square miles (99 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
It is the highest town in Orleans County. Because it's so high up, Holland usually has the coolest weather and gets the most snow in the county.
Holland has three small areas that are not officially separate villages:
- Holland Center
- Holland Pond
- Tice Hollow
History of Holland, Vermont
The town of Holland was first set up with land divided into quarter sections. This meant each person who received land got about 160 acres (0.65 square kilometers).
In 1810, there was a serious outbreak of smallpox in the town.
In 1973, a person organized a large rock concert in Holland. About 30,000 young people attended. This huge crowd was much larger than the town's resources could handle.
