Hollie Steel was born on July 1, 1998, in Burnley, England. She is a talented singer and actress. Hollie became famous in 2009 when she was ten years old. She was one of the top ten finalists on the TV show Britain's Got Talent.

During her first audition, Hollie surprised the judges with her powerful voice. Later, in the semi-finals, she had a moment of stage fright. But she bravely finished her song and made it to the final round. After the show, Hollie toured around the United Kingdom and Ireland. She performed live with the other finalists in the summer of 2009.

In September 2009, Hollie started recording her first album, called Hollie. It was released in May 2010. This album was sold in Hong Kong and the UK. She released more albums in 2011 and 2012. Her song "Fly," recorded in Rome, Italy, became very popular on YouTube in 2012.

Hollie's Early Life and Interests

Hollie Steel started singing when she was only four years old. She loved watching her older brother, Joshua, perform. Hollie also attended the KLF Dance Academy in Burnley with him. Before she appeared on Britain's Got Talent, Hollie performed in stage shows. She was in productions like Annie and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Hollie's parents, Nina and Jason, work as audiologists for the NHS. They decided to enter Hollie in Britain's Got Talent so she wouldn't feel left out. They thought her brother, Joshua, who was five years older, might have a better chance. However, the judges really liked Hollie's audition, and Joshua decided not to continue.

Hollie's Journey on Britain's Got Talent

In April 2009, Hollie Steel auditioned for the third series of Britain's Got Talent. For her first TV performance, she began with ballet dancing. She danced to "I Could Have Danced All Night" from the musical My Fair Lady. Just as judge Simon Cowell was about to press his buzzer, Hollie started singing. Her voice was surprisingly strong, which stopped him.

She received a standing ovation from the audience. All four judges approved of her performance. Guest judge Kelly Brook was very emotional and called her performance "beautiful and lovely." Many people thought she might even win over Susan Boyle. Susan Boyle had become famous worldwide in the first show of the series. Over thirteen million people watched Hollie's performance. Within one day, a video of her performance on YouTube had over a million views. She was even interviewed on US television during NBC's Today show.

A Brave Performance in the Semi-Finals

During her semi-final performance in May, Hollie had a moment of stage fright. She stopped singing in the middle of her song. After taking a drink and asking for another chance, the hosts, Ant and Dec, told her she could try again. This made her very happy. Simon Cowell also said they would find time for her to perform again.

Hollie's second attempt at "Edelweiss" went very well. The judges praised her for being skilled and brave, especially after what happened.

The Grand Final and Tour

In the final, Hollie sang "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again." This song is from Phantom of the Opera. Her performance was well-received by the audience. She finished in sixth place, getting 3.9% of the 4 million votes. This meant she received 156,000 votes.

In June and July 2009, Hollie appeared in the Britain's Got Talent – The Live Tour 2009. She performed with most of the other finalists from her series. She was taught at home between rehearsals and the start of the tour. The rehearsals took place at the Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith. The tour began in Birmingham, England, on June 12, 2009. It ended on July 5, 2009, in Bournemouth. During the live shows, Hollie performed by herself. She also sang with other artists, like 2 Grand. They performed "Edelweiss" together in Newcastle.

Hollie's Singing Career After BGT

In September 2009, Hollie signed with a record label called VVR2. However, she soon left that contract. She had recorded her first single, "Where Are You, Christmas?" from the 2000 film How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This single was released on December 14, 2009. But it did not reach the top 40 in the UK Singles Chart.

Hollie's first album, Hollie, was released on May 24, 2010. She released it on her own label, BB5 Records Limited. The label was named after the Accrington postcode. The Pendle's Arden Youth Choir sang on some of the classical songs. Hollie's second single was "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music. It was released on March 29, 2010.
