Hollis is a city in Oklahoma, United States. It is the main city and county seat of Harmon County. In 2020, about 1,795 people lived there.

History of Hollis

Hollis was named after George W. Hollis. He was a local businessman. He also helped plan the town in 1898. At that time, the area was part of old Greer County, Texas.

The first town plan was lost. After a legal case, the town was planned again in 1903. The first businesses were a general store by George Hollis and a blacksmith shop. A post office opened in Hollis on October 31, 1901.

Hollis was part of Greer County, Oklahoma, until 1909. Then, Governor Haskell divided the old county. He created Greer County and Harmon County. Hollis became part of Harmon County.

People voted to choose the county seat. Hollis won the election against Dryden, Looney, and Vinson. This made Hollis the main city for Harmon County.
