Hope Charlotte Hicks (born October 21, 1988) is an American public relations expert and political advisor. She worked for President Donald Trump during his time in office.
Hope Hicks served in several important roles. From January to September 2017, she was the White House director of strategic communications. Then, from 2017 to 2018, she was the White House communications director. She returned to the White House from 2020 to 2021 as a counselor to the president.
Before her political career, Hicks was a teenage model. She then followed her father into media and communications. After college, she worked in public relations. Later, she joined the Trump Organization. She became the press secretary for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. She was also a national press secretary for his team before joining the White House. When she left in March 2018, she was Trump's longest-serving political helper. After leaving, she worked for Fox Corporation. She came back to the White House in March 2020 and left for the last time in January 2021.

Early Life and Education
Hope Hicks grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her parents are Caye Ann (Cavender) Hicks and Paul Burton Hicks III. Her father worked in public relations and for the National Football League. Her family had a history of working in government. Her mother was an assistant to a congressman. Her grandparents also worked for government departments.
As a teenager, Hope Hicks was a model. She appeared in Greenwich magazine. She also modeled for Ralph Lauren. She was the cover model for The It Girl (2005), a book in a popular series.
Hicks went to Greenwich High School. She was a co-captain of the lacrosse team. She graduated in 2006. She then attended Southern Methodist University. She studied English and helped start a club lacrosse program. She graduated from college in 2010.
Career Journey
Starting in Public Relations
Hope Hicks began her career in public relations in New York City. She worked for Zeno Group and then for Hiltzik Strategies. At Hiltzik Strategies, she worked for Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, helping with her fashion line. Later, she started working directly on other Trump projects.
In August 2014, Hicks joined the Trump Organization full-time. She helped Ivanka Trump with her fashion brand. In October 2014, she began working directly for Donald Trump.
Working on the 2016 Presidential Campaign
In January 2015, Donald Trump asked Hope Hicks to be his press secretary for his presidential campaign. She was 26 years old at the time. She had never worked in politics before. After Trump won some early elections, she decided to stay with the campaign full-time.
During the campaign, she managed requests from reporters who wanted to speak with Trump. She handled hundreds of requests each day. Hicks also helped Trump with his tweets. She would write down what he wanted to say and send it to someone else to post. In January 2017, Forbes magazine included her on their "30 Under 30" list. They noted she was like a "one-woman press team" for the campaign.
Becoming White House Communications Director
On December 22, 2016, it was announced that Hope Hicks would join the Trump administration. She would be the White House director of strategic communications. This was a new position.
On August 16, 2017, she became the temporary White House communications director. She was later made the permanent director on September 12, 2017. Many saw her as a very trusted official in the White House.
Hope Hicks resigned from her role on March 29, 2018.
Working for Fox Corporation
From March 2018 to March 2020, Hope Hicks worked for Fox Corporation. She was the chief communications officer and an executive vice president. During this time, she earned over $1.8 million.
Returning to the White House

In February 2020, it was announced that Hope Hicks would return to the White House Office. She would be an aide to Jared Kushner and a counselor to President Donald Trump. She started her new roles on March 9.
On October 1, 2020, it was announced that Hope Hicks had tested positive for COVID-19. Because she had recently traveled with President Trump, he and First Lady Melania Trump were also tested. Hours later, President Trump announced that he and Melania had also tested positive.
After the 2020 election, some of Trump's helpers disagreed with his claims about the election. Hope Hicks advised Trump to move on. She was not seen much in public during the final weeks of Trump's presidency.
Later Public Appearances
On October 25, 2022, Hope Hicks spoke with the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. Part of her interview was shown on TV. She said that during a talk about his legacy, Trump told her that "nobody will care about my legacy if I lose ... the only thing that matters is winning."
In May 2024, Hicks testified in a court case involving Donald Trump. She shared details about how Trump wanted certain stories kept quiet to avoid embarrassment for him and his family.
Personal Life
Before Donald Trump was elected president, Hope Hicks lived in both Greenwich and Manhattan. When Trump became president, she moved to Washington, D.C..
Hope Hicks was dating Rob Porter, who was a White House staff secretary for Trump, when Porter resigned in 2018.
In May 2024, Hope Hicks became engaged to Jim Donovan, an investment banker.
