Hope Charlotte Hicks (born October 21, 1988) is an American communications expert and political advisor. She is known for working in President Donald Trump’s administration from 2017 to 2018 and again from 2020 to 2021. Her jobs included White House Communications Director and Counselor to the President.

Before her career in politics, Hicks was a model as a teenager. She later followed her father into the communications field. After college, she worked in public relations, which means she helped people and companies manage their public image. This led to a job at The Trump Organization.

From there, she became the press secretary for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. After he was elected, she joined his team at the White House. When she left in March 2018, she was Trump's longest-serving political aide. She later worked as an executive at Fox Corporation before returning to the White House in 2020.

Early Life and School

Hope Hicks was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her parents, Caye Ann and Paul Burton Hicks III, both had experience in communications and government. Her father was a top executive at a public relations company and also worked for the National Football League (NFL).

Her family had a history of working in government. Her mother was an aide for a congressman from Tennessee. Her grandfather worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and her grandmother worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation.

As a teenager, Hicks was a model. She appeared in Greenwich magazine and in a Ralph Lauren ad with her older sister. She was also on the cover of the first book in The It Girl series.

Hicks went to Greenwich High School, where she was co-captain of the lacrosse team. After graduating in 2006, she attended Southern Methodist University. She studied English and helped start a club lacrosse team. She graduated in 2010.

Career Journey

First Jobs in Public Relations

Hicks started her career in public relations at a firm in New York City. In 2012, she joined another company called Hiltzik Strategies. There, she worked with Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, helping with her fashion line and other projects.

In August 2014, Hicks began working full-time for The Trump Organization. She helped expand Ivanka Trump's fashion brand and even modeled for its online store. Soon after, she started working directly for Donald Trump.

Working on the 2016 Campaign

In January 2015, Donald Trump asked Hicks to be the press secretary for his possible presidential campaign. She was 26 years old and had never worked in politics before. Trump told her, "I'm thinking about running for president, and you're going to be my press secretary."

She was asked to choose between her job at the Trump Organization and working on the campaign. She almost left the campaign, but Trump persuaded her to stay.

During the campaign, she was in charge of communication with the press. She handled more than 250 requests a day from reporters who wanted to speak with Trump. She also helped write his posts for Twitter. In 2017, Forbes magazine named her to its "30 Under 30" list for her work.

After Trump won the election, Hicks joined his team at the White House. She started in a new role called the White House Director of Strategic Communications.

In August 2017, she became the acting White House Communications Director. A month later, the position became permanent. The communications director is in charge of managing the president's message to the public.

On February 27, 2018, Hicks testified for nine hours before the House Intelligence Committee. The next day, the White House announced that she planned to resign. Sources said she had been planning to leave for several months. Her last day was March 29, 2018.

Time at Fox Corporation

After leaving the White House, Hicks worked at Fox Corporation from March 2018 to March 2020. She was the company's chief communications officer and an executive vice president.

Return to the White House

In February 2020, Hicks returned to the White House. She worked as an aide to Jared Kushner and as a counselor to President Trump. She officially started her new roles on March 9.

On October 1, 2020, it was announced that Hicks had tested positive for COVID-19. Because she had traveled with the president, he and First Lady Melania Trump were also tested. They also tested positive and went into quarantine.

After the 2020 election, Hicks advised Trump to focus on the future. According to a report, she told him she did not believe the election results were wrong. She was not seen in public much during the final weeks of Trump's presidency.

Personal Life

Before the 2016 election, Hicks lived in both Greenwich, Connecticut, and Manhattan. She moved to Washington, D.C., when she began working at the White House.

In May 2024, Hicks became engaged to Jim Donovan, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.
