The Hot Creek Range is a chain of mountains in central Nevada, a state in the western United States. It's located in Nye County. This mountain range stretches about 43 miles (69 km) from the old town of Warm Springs towards the north-northeast.

Where is the Hot Creek Range?

The Hot Creek Range is surrounded by different valleys and other mountain ranges. To its west, you'll find Stone Cabin Valley, Little Fish Lake Valley, and the large Monitor Range.

To the east, there are Hot Creek Valley and Big Sand Springs Valley. You can also find the Lunar Craters Volcanic Field there. Further east is the big Railroad Valley. Beyond that are the Grant and Quinn Canyon Ranges.

Highway 6 passes south of the range. It goes over Warm Springs Summit, which is 6,293 feet (1,918 meters) high. To the north, the Hot Creek Range almost connects with the smaller Antelope and Park Ranges.

Peaks and Features of the Range

The northern part of the Hot Creek Range has two main crests, or high ridges. The eastern crest is home to Morey Peak. This peak is the highest point in the entire range. It stands tall at 10,246 feet (3,123 meters). Near Morey Peak, there was once a historic silver mining area called Morey.

The western crest is located across Sixmile Canyon. This part of the range includes Mahogany Peak, which is 9,825 feet (2,995 meters) high. You can also find Hot Creek Canyon here. This area is known for its rugged landscape. It includes the Fandango Wilderness Study Area, which is a wild and untouched place.

How the Range Got Its Name

The Hot Creek Range gets its name from a hot spring located nearby. A hot spring is a natural spring where warm water comes out of the ground.
