Another important peak is Moonshine Peak. It is about 2,877 meters (9,440 feet) high. This peak is located about 18.4 kilometers (11.4 miles) south of Ninemile Peak. The floor of the Little Smokey Valley, which is east of Ninemile Peak, is at an elevation of about 1,850 meters (6,070 feet).

Geology of the Mountains

The rocks in the Antelope Range are very old. Some of the rock formations here are from a time period called the Middle Ordovician. This period was millions of years ago, when many new types of sea creatures appeared on Earth. A specific part of this time, called the Whiterock Stage, was named after rock units found in this region.
