Hoxie is a city in Kansas, United States. It is also the main town, or county seat, of Sheridan County. In 2020, about 1,211 people lived there.

History of Hoxie

Hoxie was started in early 1886. Before Hoxie, the main town was Kenneth, about three miles north. The people who founded Hoxie convinced the residents of Kenneth to move their homes and businesses to the new site. This was because a new railroad line was going to pass through Hoxie, not Kenneth.

The towns agreed to join together, and Hoxie became the new county seat. The city was named after H.M. Hoxie, who was an important person in the railroad company. The railroad, which later became part of the Union Pacific Railroad, arrived in Hoxie in 1888. However, the railroad line that went through Hoxie was no longer used after 1998.
