Hubert Douglas Delany (born December 31, 1993) is an American politician. He serves in the Connecticut House of Representatives for the 144th District. This district represents Stamford, Connecticut. Delany is a member of the Democratic Party. He is also a sergeant in the U.S. Army. In the Army, he has worked as a photojournalist, writer, and communications specialist.

Early Life and Family History
Hubert Douglas Delany III was born on December 31, 1993. His parents are Deborah Delany and Hubert Delany, Sr. II. He was born at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. Hubert grew up in Stamford and nearby Wilton. As a teenager, he helped start Stamford's first Diversity Festival.
Hubert Delany comes from a family with a rich history. His great-grandfather, Hubert Thomas Delany, was a civil rights pioneer. He was a lawyer and one of the first African-American judges in New York City. Hubert's two great-grandaunts, Sadie and Bessie Delany, wrote a famous book. It was called Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years. This book shared their family's story, going back to the 1700s.
His great-great-grandfather, Henry Beard Delany (1858—1928), was born into slavery. He later became the first African American Bishop Suffragan in the Episcopal Church (United States). Other notable family members include poet Clarissa Scott Delany and science fiction writer Samuel R. Delany.
Military Service
Delany joined the United States Army in August 2015. He completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then trained as a public affairs specialist.
He worked as a public affairs specialist at the 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment. This unit was part of the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Delany took part in many operations. In 2017, he helped with the U.S. Army's response to Hurricane Harvey. In 2018, he worked with U.S. Army Europe. This was for Operation Atlantic Resolve. His work helped strengthen NATO defense plans in Central Europe and Eastern Europe.
In 2019, Delany was assigned to the 8th Psychological Operations Group. In 2020, he supported the United States response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also created a program called "Boots to Ballots." This program helped military members vote while away from home.
Since 2021, Delany has been with the 353d Civil Affairs Command. He continues to serve there.

Elections and Service
In 2022, Delany ran as a Democrat for the 144th district. This was a special election for the Connecticut House of Representatives. He ran to replace Caroline Simmons, who became mayor of Stamford. Delany won the election against Republican candidate Danny Melchionne.
He serves as a Vice Chair on the House Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee. Later in 2022, Delany won a full term. He defeated Republican Mitchell Bell. Representative Delany filed to run for reelection in November 2024.
