Humphrey is a small town located in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 701 people lived there. The town is named after Charles Humphrey, who was an important leader in the New York State Assembly when the town was created.
Humphrey is in the eastern part of Cattaraugus County. It is located northeast of the city of Salamanca.

History of Humphrey
Early Settlers
The area that is now Humphrey was first settled around 1815. The town of Humphrey was officially formed in 1836. It was created from a part of the nearby town of Allegany.
The very first person to settle permanently in Humphrey was Russell Chapell. He came from Schenectady County in 1815. He and his wife built a log house on the banks of Sugartown Creek. This made them the first official settlers. Over the next ten years, more people moved to the area, and the settlement slowly grew.
Geography of Humphrey
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Humphrey covers a total area of about 37.1 square miles (96.2 km2). Only a tiny part of this, about 0.02 square miles (0.04 km2), is water.
New York State Route 98 passes through the northwest corner of the town. Most of Humphrey is served by county roads, which include Routes 18, 19, and 51.

Humphrey shares its borders with several other towns:
- To the west is the town of Great Valley.
- To the north is the town of Franklinville.
- The eastern border is shared with the towns of Hinsdale and Ischua.
- To the south is the town of Allegany.

Places in Humphrey
- Humphrey – This is the main hamlet (a small community) in the center of the town. It is located where County Roads 18 and 51 meet. It used to be called "Chapellsburg." There is a special Roman Catholic chapel here called Saint Pacificus Chapel. It's the only church in North America named after Saint Pacificus.
- Humphrey Center – This is another hamlet in the northern part of the town, also on County Road 18. People sometimes call this community "Tickletown."
- Wrights Creek – This is a stream that flows through Humphrey and Humphrey Center. It was named after an early settler named Richard Wright.
- Pumpkinville – This is a fun autumn theme park, pumpkin patch, and apple cider mill. It is located in the western part of the town.
