IÉSEG School of Management is a famous business school in France. Its full name, Institut d'Économie Scientifique Et de Gestion, means "The Institute of Scientific Economics and Management." It's a private school that teaches business and management.
IÉSEG was started in 1964 in Lille, France. It is part of the private Université Catholique de Lille, which is the biggest private university in France. The school has two main locations: one in Lille and another in Paris.
IÉSEG is special because it has received the "Triple Crown" of international business school approvals. These are EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. This means it meets very high standards for teaching and quality around the world.
The school is often ranked among the Top 10 business schools in France by the International Financial Times. It is also a "Grande École" and a member of the Conférence des Grandes écoles. This makes IÉSEG one of the most respected schools in France.

History of IÉSEG
IÉSEG was founded in 1964 in Lille by Michel Falise, an economist. In 1976, the French Ministry of National Education officially recognized the school. It became a member of the Conférence des Grandes écoles in 1997.
In 2002, IÉSEG was one of the first business schools in France to offer a Master in management taught completely in English. This made it easier for students from all over the world to study there.
Since 2006, IÉSEG has worked with the CNRS, which is a big research organization in France. This partnership helps the school do important research. IÉSEG earned its "Triple Crown" accreditations between 2012 and 2013. These are EQUIS (2012), AACSB (2013), and AMBA (2013).
Instead of opening campuses in other countries, IÉSEG has focused on making its Lille and Paris campuses better. The Lille campus is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is different from many other schools in France.
What is a Grande École?
IÉSEG School of Management is known as a Grande école. These are special higher education schools in France. They are separate from, but connected to, the main public university system.
Think of them like the Ivy League schools in the United States or Oxbridge in the UK. Grandes Écoles are very selective. Students have to pass a tough exam to get in. Many graduates from these schools go on to hold important jobs in government and big companies in France.
Grandes Écoles usually have smaller class sizes than public universities. Many of their programs are taught in English, which is great for international students. They also offer international internships and study abroad chances. They have strong connections with businesses and government.
IÉSEG is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE). Out of 250 business schools in France, only 39 are CGE members. This shows how special IÉSEG is.
Degrees from IÉSEG are approved by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles. They are also awarded by the French Ministry of National Education. IÉSEG also has the "Triple Crown" of international business school accreditations. These are EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. In 2022, the Financial Times ranked its Masters in Management program 26th in the world.
Programs Offered
Higher education business degrees in France have three levels. These are the Licence/Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees. A Bachelor's degree usually takes three years. A Master's degree takes two more years after the Bachelor's.
Grande École Program
IÉSEG offers a special five-year Master in Management program. Students can join this program right after finishing high school (the French Baccalauréat). This is different from many other French Grande écoles.
This program has a three-year Bachelor cycle first. During this time, students learn about different areas of management. These include International Business, Marketing, and Operations Management.
After the Bachelor cycle, there's a two-year Master cycle. Here, students can choose to focus on a specific area. Some options include Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, or International Negotiation. Students can also choose to take all courses in English. This is helpful for students from other countries who don't speak French.
Bachelor in International Business
The Bachelor in International Business (BIB) program started in 2015. It is taught entirely in English. This program is for students who are interested in management and international business.
Students learn how to manage projects for global companies. They also learn to work in different business situations in a responsible way. The program includes six semesters of classes. Students can also choose to study abroad or get a double degree.
The BIB program also includes three internships. These internships give students seven months of work experience. This helps them build connections and get ready for jobs after graduation. Students must also spend at least three months abroad. This can be for studying or working.
Master of Science (MSc) Programs
IÉSEG offers several Master of Science (MSc) programs. These programs are taught completely in English. After finishing, students receive an MSc degree from the Conférence des Grandes écoles. This degree shows the high quality of the school.
International MBA
The International MBA (IMBA) is a one-year program. It is also taught entirely in English. IÉSEG's IMBA program is approved by AMBA.
In 2020, IÉSEG's IMBA program was ranked 38th globally. It was also noted for having a high percentage of international teachers and students. The students in this program come from many different countries. They usually have about 7 years of work experience before joining.
Executive MBA (EMBA)
The Executive MBA (EMBA) is for people who already have important jobs. It helps them develop leadership skills for new roles. This program also provides a recognized title in France and Europe.
The EMBA class includes students from many different backgrounds and countries. They usually have about 16 years of work experience. This mix of experiences makes for rich discussions and projects.
How to Get In
To get into the first year of the "Grande Ecole Programme," students take the Access exam. It's very competitive. In 2019, over 5,700 students applied, but only 800 were accepted.
For the Bachelor in International Business and other Master's programs, admission is different. Students apply online with their resume and English language test scores. They also do an online video or interview.
IÉSEG offers many scholarships to students. These scholarships can help cover tuition costs. Students don't need to apply separately for scholarships. The admissions team decides on scholarships when they review applications.
