History of the School
IÉSEG was founded in Lille in 1964 by an economist named Michel Falise. In 1976, the French government officially recognized it as a high-quality school.
A big change happened in 2002. IÉSEG became one of the first business schools in France to offer a Master's degree program taught completely in English. This made it easier for students from all over the world to study there.
The school has grown a lot over the years. Instead of opening campuses in other countries, it focused on making its campuses in Lille and Paris bigger and better. The Lille campus is even open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for its students.
What is a Grande École?
In France, IÉSEG is known as a Grande école. This is a special type of university that is separate from the main public university system. Think of them like the Ivy League schools in the United States or Oxbridge in the United Kingdom.
Grandes Écoles are very hard to get into. Students must pass difficult exams to be accepted. Because of this, these schools are considered elite, and the people who graduate from them often get important jobs in government and big companies.
Compared to public universities in France, Grandes Écoles usually have smaller classes. This means students get more attention from their teachers. Many of their classes are taught in English, which attracts students from around the globe. These schools also have strong connections with companies, which helps students find internships and jobs.
IÉSEG is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles, a group of the best schools in France. Out of 250 business schools in the country, only 39 are members of this special group.
What Can You Study at IÉSEG?
Students at IÉSEG learn all about business and management. The school offers different levels of degrees, similar to universities in other countries.
- Bachelor's Degree: This is the first degree you can earn after high school. It usually takes three years to complete.
- Master's Degree: After a Bachelor's degree, students can study for a Master's degree. The most famous one at IÉSEG is the Master's in Management.
- Doctorate (PhD): This is the highest degree a student can earn. It involves doing deep research on a specific topic.
The school's programs are designed to prepare students for careers all over the world. In 2022, the Financial Times newspaper ranked IÉSEG's Master's in Management program as the 26th best in the world.
