Ice Breakers is a popular brand of mints and chewing gum. The Hershey Company owns this brand.
You might know their soft, cube-shaped gum. It is called Ice Cubes.
The Story of Ice Breakers
Ice Breakers first started in the 1990s. It was created by the LifeSaver division of Nabisco. They wanted to make mints that could compete with other brands.
In the year 2000, Hershey Company bought Ice Breakers from Nabisco. This deal cost $135 million. It also included other popular gum and mint brands. These included Bubble Yum and Breath Savers. After Hershey took over, Ice Breakers started to become even more popular.
By 2006, Hershey was a major player in the chewing gum market. They saw Ice Breakers as a way to grow even more. Around 2014, sales of chewing gum in general faced some challenges. This was partly due to changes in the economy. Also, people had many more snack choices than just gum.
However, Ice Breakers continued to do well. For example, sales of their Ice Cubes gum grew from 2015 to 2016.
Ice Breakers Products and Fun Ads
Ice Breakers makes many kinds of mints and chewing gum. These include cool mints and peppermint chews. Their soft, cube-shaped gum is called Ice Cubes.
In 2003, Ice Breakers introduced "Liquid Ice." These were mints with a liquid center. They even had a big advertising campaign with singer Jessica Simpson to promote them.
The company also released dual-pack gum and mints in 2004. Later that year, famous sisters Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff became spokeswomen for the brand.
In April 2018, Ice Breakers launched a special gum. It had edible glitter sprinkled on it! They hoped young adults would really like this new product.
Ice Breakers has also supported athletes. They sponsored NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick. They also supported the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA).
Some products are no longer made. Ice Breakers Frost mints were stopped in September 2022.
