Ice Breakers is a popular brand that makes yummy mints and chewing gum. It's owned by The Hershey Company, which makes lots of other famous candies. You might know their soft, cube-shaped gum called Ice Cubes.
History of Ice Breakers
Ice Breakers first started in the 1990s. It was created by a part of Nabisco called LifeSavers. They wanted to make a mint brand that could compete with others already out there.
In the year 2000, Hershey bought Ice Breakers from Nabisco. This big deal also included other gum and mint brands like Bubble Yum and Breath Savers. After Hershey took over, Ice Breakers started to become even more popular.
By 2006, Hershey was one of the top companies selling chewing gum. They saw Ice Breakers as a way to sell even more gum. While overall gum sales slowed down around 2014, Ice Breakers' Ice Cubes gum actually sold more in 2016 compared to the year before.
Ice Breakers Products and Promotions
Ice Breakers makes many different kinds of mints and chewing gum. This includes cool mints, peppermint chews, and their unique soft, cube-shaped gum called Ice Cubes.
In 2003, Ice Breakers launched a new product called Liquid Ice. These were mints with a liquid center. To help promote them, they launched an advertising campaign with singer and actress Jessica Simpson.
A year later, in 2004, Ice Breakers released special packs that had both gum and mints together. Later that same year, they chose sisters Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff to be the faces of their brand. You might even spot blue and red Ice Breakers gum packs in the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!
In April 2018, Ice Breakers introduced a fun new gum. It had edible glitter sprinkled on it! They hoped this sparkly gum would be a hit with young adults, often called Millennials.
Ice Breakers has also supported athletes. They have sponsored NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick. They also supported the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA).
