"Immortals" is a cool song by the American rock band Fall Out Boy. They wrote and recorded it for the 2014 Walt Disney Animation Studios movie Big Hero 6.
There are actually two versions of the song. The first one is from the movie. A slightly different version also appears on the band's sixth album, American Beauty/American Psycho, which came out in 2015.
The movie version was released by Walt Disney Records on October 14, 2014. You could get it as a digital download. Later, a special 7-inch vinyl was released on December 16, 2014. It even came with a poster! This song was very popular. By February 2016, "Immortals" had sold over one million copies in the US. This earned it a Platinum award.

Creating the Song for Big Hero 6
Disney asked Fall Out Boy to write a song for Big Hero 6. They wanted a song for the part where the Big Hero 6 team changes. This is when they go from being super smart people to high-tech heroes.
The band's bassist, Pete Wentz, shared how it happened. He said they met with the movie directors at Disney. The directors explained the story, and it fit well with the band's own ideas. Wentz felt it was amazing how much the story matched their band's view of the world.
Wentz also mentioned that being part of the movie was a cool experience. Their song was just a small piece of a much bigger project. The challenge was to make their song fit perfectly into the movie's story.
The Meaning Behind "Immortals"
Patrick Stump, the band's singer, explained the song's title. It was inspired by the idea of a kid stepping up for his brother. He said that your wins are not just yours alone. The song shows how everyone comes together to help someone reach their goal. This idea is very exciting.
Pete Wentz added more about the song's meaning. He said the song is about the team trying out their new super suits. Some things work, and some don't. But you can tell they are becoming bigger heroes. Wentz felt this story was very much like Fall Out Boy's own journey. He said the band has always connected with the "underdog" idea.
Different Versions of the Song
On December 15, 2014, Fall Out Boy's album American Beauty/American Psycho was available for pre-order. It was then revealed that "Immortals" would also be on this album. It was track number 10.
On January 12, 2015, six new songs from the album, including "Immortals," were put online. Fans could listen to them on YouTube. The band even joked that Baymax, the robot from Big Hero 6, said it was his favorite song on the album.
The album version and the movie version of "Immortals" are a bit different. In the movie version, the drums sound like a marching band. But in the album version, that powerful drum sound is mostly gone.
There is also a remix of "Immortals." It features vocals from Black Thought, a member of The Roots. This remix appeared on the album Make America Psycho Again.
"Immortals" Around the World
The Italian version of "Immortals" was sung by Patrick Stump. This is interesting because he doesn't speak Italian. Rick Dempsey, a senior vice president at Disney, explained how they did it. Stump would sing each part many times. He would change his pronunciation a little bit each time. He kept trying until someone who spoke fluent Italian said, "That's it!"
Music Videos
A music video was released for the movie version of "Immortals." In this video, the four members of Fall Out Boy walk up to a jukebox. They choose to play their song. The vinyl record playing the song is white. It has the face of Baymax from Big Hero 6 on it. This video's idea is similar to Green Day's "X-Kid" music video.
A second music video was released for the album version of "Immortals." This video came out on December 24, 2014. It mixes scenes from Big Hero 6 with clips of Fall Out Boy performing live. This video was part of "12 Days of FOB." This was an event where the band shared special videos, pictures, or lyrics with their fans.
