Improvement District No. 09 (Banff), often called Improvement District No. 9, is a special type of local government area in Alberta, Canada. It is located inside Banff National Park in the beautiful Alberta's Rockies. This improvement district acts like a local government for the parts of the park that are not part of the Town of Banff.
A Look at Its History
Improvement District (I.D.) No. 9 was first created on April 1, 1945. Back then, it was known as I.D. No. 51. It was formed by joining together several smaller improvement districts and parts of others.
Later, on January 1, 1969, I.D. No. 51 was given a new number and became I.D. No. 9. The town of Banff used to be part of this improvement district. However, on January 1, 1990, Banff became its own separate town with its own local government.
