She describes herself as a "child of the world." Her family roots come from different places, including Algeria, Cambodia, India, and Egypt. Before she started her music career, Indila worked as a tour guide. She chose her stage name, Indila, because of her deep love for India.
Besides singing in her native French, Indila has also sung in English. You can hear her voice in songs like "Dreamin" with Youssoupha and "Bye Bye Sonyé" with DJ Abdel. She has also sung parts in Urdu in songs like "Criminel" by TLF.
Music Career Highlights
Indila's journey into music really took off when she met music producer Skalpovich. This meeting helped her get into the world of rap music. She started her music career around 2009.
She provided vocals for songs like "Invitaation" by Vitaa and "Hiro" by Soprano. "Hiro" was one of her first big successes, reaching number 26 on the music charts in France. Over the next few years, she worked with many other French rappers and DJs. Some of these collaborations include "Dreamin'" with Youssoupha, which became a top 15 hit in France in 2012.
"Dernière danse" and Mini World

"Dernière danse" was also popular outside France. In early 2014, it was the number one song on iTunes in Greece and Romania. The music video for "Dernière danse" was released in December 2013. It reached 100 million views on YouTube by July 2014. Thanks to its popularity on TikTok, the video now has over 1.1 billion views.
In February 2014, Indila released her first album, Mini World. Her producer, Skalpovich, helped create the album. Two other songs from the album also became top 20 hits in France: "Tourner dans le vide" (meaning "Spinning in the Emptiness") and "S.O.S".
Mini World was the best-selling album in France when it first came out. It stayed among the top ten best-selling albums for many months.
