Charlotte Gonin (born March 14, 1983), known by her stage name Vitaa, is a popular French singer and songwriter. She is famous for her powerful voice and her songs that often talk about real-life feelings and experiences.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Charlotte Gonin, who later became Vitaa, was born in Mulhouse, France, on March 14, 1983. She grew up in a town called Lucenay. Her father is French, and her mother is French-Italian.

From a young age, Vitaa loved music. She started singing when she was just 11 years old. She was inspired by famous French singers like Jacques Brel and Francis Cabrel, as well as soul music artists like Marvin Gaye. By the time she was 15, she was already performing small concerts. She left home at 17 to follow her dreams.

After finishing her studies and getting a degree in international commerce, Vitaa discovered a new passion: writing her own songs. She worked in a clothing store for a few years before moving to Paris to focus on her music career.

Her stage name, Vitaa, comes from her mother and her great-grandmother's first name, Vita. This name means "life" in Italian. Soon after, she met Akos, who became her official composer, and she began recording her music in a professional studio.

Vitaa's Music Career

Vitaa started recording demo songs early in her career. In 2001, another artist named Dadoo heard her sing. He was so impressed that he asked her to sing the chorus for his song Pas à pas and another song called Oublie. These songs were played on the radio and helped Vitaa become known to a wider audience.

For a few years, Vitaa worked different jobs to pay her rent while waiting to sign with a music label. She also sang with many other artists. She recorded a second duet with Dadoo called Sur ta route. She also collaborated on songs like Mytho with Mafia K-1 Fry, Bol d'air with Rohff, Peur d'aimer with Nessbeal, and Ne dis jamais with Sinik.

Her big breakthrough came when she sang with the famous rapper Diam's on the song Confessions nocturnes. This song made her very popular.

Vitaa was the first artist to sign with the label Motown France. She released her first solo album, A fleur de toi, on February 5, 2007. This album was a huge success and reached number one in France. The music video for the main song was filmed in Montreal, Canada.

Vitaa also had the amazing opportunity to be the opening act for Rihanna's show in Paris during her Last Girl on Earth tour.

In 2023, Vitaa released her second solo album, Charlotte. This album is special because it's named after her birth name and shows a more personal side of her life, including her experiences as a mother. One song on the album, "Ton amoureuse," even features her child. The album was released on October 6, and the music video for "Je n'oublie pas" came out on October 26. Vitaa performed "Je n'oublie pas" at the 25th NRJ Music Awards, where she also won the award for "Francophone Female Artist of the Year."
