Indus is a small place in Koochiching County, Minnesota, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Where is Indus?
Indus is located in northern Minnesota. It sits between two other towns: International Falls and Baudette. You can find it right on State Highway 11 (MN 11).
The area around Indus is part of the Northwest Koochiching Unorganized Territory. The Rainy River flows nearby. Other small places close to Indus include Birchdale, Loman, and Emo in Ontario, Canada. Indus is about 30 miles west of International Falls and 38 miles east of Baudette.
School Days in Indus
For many years, Indus had its own school called Indus School. It was special because it focused on outdoor education for students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. This means kids learned a lot about nature and the environment. However, since 2023, students from the Indus area now go to Northome School.
A Bit of History
Indus got its name from the famous Indus River in Asia. A post office was opened in Indus in 1902. It helped people send and receive mail for many years until it closed in 1974.
