Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė (born on January 20, 1963) is a famous actress and TV host from Lithuania. She is well-known for her work in both movies and plays. Some of her most famous films include Burnt by the Sun (1994) and Katya Ismailova (1994). For Katya Ismailova, she won the Nika Award for Best Actress. She also appeared in big Hollywood movies like Mission: Impossible (1996) and Seven Years in Tibet (1997).

Early Life and First Steps
Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. Her father was a diplomat and her mother was a meteorologist. For many years, her parents worked in Moscow. This meant Ingeborga only saw them during holidays. Her grandparents, uncle, and aunt took care of her. Her uncle and aunt were musicians in a theater orchestra.
When she was four years old, Ingeborga first appeared on stage. It was in the opera Madam Butterfly. Her grandmother, who worked at the Vilnius opera theater, watched her. After this first show, she didn't seem very interested in acting or music. For a long time, it looked like she might become a sports star! She loved figure skating and basketball, which is very popular in Lithuania. She later studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. In 1985, she joined the Kaunas State Drama Theatre.

After finishing her studies, Ingeborga joined the Kaunas State Drama Theatre. In just two years, she played seven main roles in plays directed by her teacher, Jonas Vaitkus. She acted in famous plays like Antigone and some Shakespeare plays. Later, she was invited to the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. She also worked in the Vilnius State Theatre.
In 1992, she performed with John Malkovich in a play called Slip of the Tongue. They performed in Chicago and London. This play started a long friendship and many collaborations with Malkovich. Ingeborga also worked in other theaters in the UK, US, and Europe. In Moscow, she performed in a play called Touchables. This was a special play because it was the first time deaf-blind actors performed in a theater production.

In 1991, Ingeborga starred in the movie Cynics. For this role, she won the Golden Aries Award in 1992. In 1994, she won the Nika Award for Best Actress for her main role in Katya Ismailova. In the same year, she played Marussia in the famous movie Burnt by the Sun. This film won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
She also had main roles in movies like Orange Juice. On TV, she played Morpheya in Sky Court (2011). She was also Mrs Hudson in the 2012 TV show Sherlock Holmes. She played historical figures like Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in Grigoriy R (2014) and Maria Feodorovna in Matilda (2017).

In 2007, she played the mother of Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising.

On TV, Ingeborga played Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in The Lost Prince (2003). She was Jasmina Blekic in Prime Suspect (2003). She played nurse Katya Bredova in Bodies (2004). She was also Baiba Liepa in the TV series Wallander.

Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė has been married three times. Her first husband was Arūnas Sakalauskas, an actor she met at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her second husband was Simon Stokes, a British artistic director. They worked together on the play A Slip of the Tongue.
From 2013 to 2018, Ingeborga was married to Dmitry Yampolsky, a Russian lawyer. They have one son together.
She has lived in Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Belgium. In February 2022, she spoke out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After this, she left Russia. She holds citizenship in both Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
Helping Others
For many years, Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė has been involved in charity work. She was the chairperson of the board for the Hospice Charity Foundation Vera. She was also a member of the board for the Friends Foundation. Since 2015, she has helped create a theater project called Touchables. This project helps integrate deafblind people into the acting community.
