Rob Roy's Cave, a famous hideout

Inversnaid (which is Inbhir Snàthaid in Scottish Gaelic) is a small, quiet place in Scotland. It sits on the eastern side of Loch Lomond, which is a large lake, near its northern end.

This area is a popular spot for visitors. It has a pier where boats can dock and a hotel. The famous long-distance walking path called the West Highland Way goes right through Inversnaid. You can catch a small ferry from here to Inveruglas or Tarbet on the other side of the loch. There's also a ferry that runs at certain times of the year between Ardlui and Ardleish, which is close enough to walk to from Inversnaid. If you want to drive to Inversnaid, the road from Aberfoyle is about 15 miles (24 km) long.

Close by, there's a place known as Rob Roy's Cave. People say it was a secret hideout for Rob Roy MacGregor, a famous Scottish folk hero. The cave is a bit tricky to get to. It's easiest to see it from Loch Lomond, where a white paint mark shows you where it is.

Inversnaid Hotel: A Historic Stay

The Inversnaid Hotel is right on the banks of Loch Lomond. It's next to the beautiful Arklet Falls and is a key stop on the West Highland Way. The hotel was first built in 1790. It was originally a hunting lodge for the Duke of Montrose.

Today, the hotel offers food and drinks to hikers on the West Highland Way. It has a special part of the building just for them. The hotel also provides guided tours of the local area. Many famous people have stayed here over the years. These include writers like William Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scott, and even Queen Victoria. Later, American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne and English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins also visited.

Inversnaid Bunkhouse: A Place to Rest

The Inversnaid Bunkhouse is a hostel that also has a restaurant. It's located about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) away from the West Highland Way and Loch Lomond. This hostel used to be a church called St. Kentigerna's Parish Church.

In the 1990s, the building was changed into an outdoor activity center for the Boys' Brigade. Later, it became the bunkhouse it is today. You can still see the original stained glass windows in the restaurant, which is on the upper floor.

Garrison Farm: History and Hospitality

The historic Garrison of Inversnaid was set up by the Duke of Montrose a long time ago, during the time of Rob Roy MacGregor. Today, this old garrison is a working farm. It also offers Bed & Breakfast rooms, so you can stay there all year round.

RSPB Reserve: Protecting Nature

Most of the land around Inversnaid is part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. It is also looked after by the Woodland Trust. However, a large part of the hills and lakeside area in Inversnaid, especially on the northern side, is a special nature reserve. This reserve was created and is cared for by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). It helps protect the local wildlife and plants.

Inversnaid Primary School: A Small School's Story

In 2010, Inversnaid Primary School made news because it only had two students. This meant it cost about £54,000 per student, making it the most expensive primary school in the UK based on how many students it had. The next year, the school was closed down. The building was then put up for sale by the local council, Stirling Council.
