Irina Berezhna (born August 13, 1980 – died August 5, 2017) was an important Ukrainian politician. She was a member of the Verkhovna Rada, which is like Ukraine's parliament. She served as a People's Deputy from 2007 to 2014, representing the Party of Regions.

Irina Berezhna's Career Journey
Irina Berezhna was born in 1980 in a city called Voroshylovhrad, which is now known as Luhansk in Ukraine. At that time, Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union.
Education and Early Work
She studied law at the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and graduated in 2002. Law is all about rules and justice. Later, in 2009, she also studied public administration, which is about how governments are run.
After finishing her law studies, Irina became a trainee notary in Kyiv in 2004. A notary is a person who makes sure important documents are signed correctly and are legally valid.
While she was still studying (from 2000 to 2002), she worked as an assistant for a committee in the Verkhovna Rada. This committee focused on making laws and ensuring they followed international rules.
Starting Businesses and Awards
Irina Berezhna was also an entrepreneur. In 1999, she started her very first business, which was a travel agency. In 2004, she became the Deputy Director for Legal Affairs at a law firm.
Her notary office even won a special award called "European quality" in 2008. This award came from the European Business Association in the UK. She worked as a private notary in Kyiv until November 2007.
Scientific and Public Activities
In July 2007, Irina Berezhna earned her Ph.D. in law. This means she did advanced research and writing in the field of law. She also wrote many articles about law and how notaries work for different legal and business magazines.
She was a member of the Ukrainian Bar Association, which is a group for lawyers. She also worked closely with other important legal groups like the Association of Lawyers of Ukraine and the European Business Association. She received an award called "Woman of the 3rd Millennium" for her achievements.
Serving in the Verkhovna Rada
In 2007, Irina Berezhna became a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Party of Regions. This meant she was elected to help make laws for Ukraine.
While in parliament, she had several important roles:
- She led a special group that looked after the rights and freedoms of citizens.
- She was part of a committee that worked on cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.
- She also led groups that helped build relationships between Ukraine's parliament and the parliaments of other countries, including Jordan, Algeria, the United States, Poland, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
In the 2012 election, she won a seat in the Kharkiv region. She then became a member of the committee that focused on Ukraine's relationship with Europe. She did not run in the 2014 election.
Irina Berezhna's Personal Life
Irina Berezhna had a daughter named Daniella, who was born in 2009.
Death and Burial
Sadly, Irina Berezhna died on August 5, 2017, in a car accident in Croatia, near the Adriatic Sea. The driver of the car lost control, and the car went off the road. Her daughter, Daniella, survived the accident but was injured.
The accident happened very early in the morning on a highway. Two other people in the car also died. Daniella was taken to a hospital in the city of Zadar.
On August 10, 2017, a memorial service was held for Irina Berezhna in Kyiv. Many politicians and famous people attended to pay their respects. After the service, she was buried at Zvirynets Cemetery. Her daughter, Daniella, was later cared for by Boris Fuksman.
