Early Life

Irina Lăzăreanu was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on June 8, 1982. When she was five years old, she moved to Canada with her parents. They settled in a town near Montreal called Saint-Hubert, Quebec.

At age 13, Irina moved to London to study ballet. However, she had to stop after breaking her knee. When she was 15, she met the musician Pete Doherty. They later became friends and were even engaged for a short time in 2007.

Modeling Career

When Irina was 17, she went to an open casting call for models. She signed with a modeling agency in Montreal. She hoped this job would help her pay for her rent.

After that, she worked in fashion cities like London and Paris. She also appeared in fashion weeks in Barcelona, Australia, and Madrid. In 2005, her friend Kate Moss chose her to model for Vogue: Paris. Kate Moss was a guest editor for that issue. Soon after, Irina was on the cover of Vogue Italia in January 2006. Steven Meisel took the photos.

In March 2007, Kate Moss again picked Irina to model for her new clothing line for Topshop.

Working with Top Brands

Irina has worked on many campaigns for famous designers and brands. These include Chanel, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Anna Sui, Lanvin, Versace, The Kooples, and Gap. She has been a brand ambassador for Chanel.

Fashion Design and Styling

Since 2018, Irina has focused on styling for fashion campaigns. She has also been a guest Art Director for several publications. Today, she spends her time on styling and helping others. She is a co-creator of a charity called No More Plastic. This group works to reduce the harmful effects of plastic pollution.

Personal Style

Irina Lăzăreanu is known for her unique and vintage-inspired style. Many people believe this style helped her modeling career grow. When asked about her fashion, Irina said she is influenced by the 1960s and 1970s London era. This influence shows in her clothes, music, movies, and books.

Fashion experts often describe Irina as having a very special look. Emmanuelle Alt from Vogue Paris said that Irina always keeps her unique style on the runway. Because of her striking features and rock-and-roll look, Irina became an "official muse" for designers Nicolas Ghesquière and Karl Lagerfeld. She even shot the Chanel Cruise campaign with Karl Lagerfeld.

Music Career

Irina met musician Pete Doherty at a party when she was a ballet student. Pete Doherty was a member of the band the Libertines at the time. Irina and Pete connected over their shared love for artists like Oscar Wilde and Nina Simone.

In June 2010, Irina organized a benefit concert in New York City. She was set to perform with Pete Doherty, Sean Lennon, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, and Adam Green. However, Pete Doherty could not enter the United States, so the band played without him.
