Itingen is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Sissach district. It is part of the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland. Itingen is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and its quiet community life.

History of Itingen

Itingen has a long history. It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1226. At that time, it was known as Utingen. Later, in 1454, its name changed slightly to Uetingen. Over time, it became the Itingen we know today.

Itingen covers an area of about 3.14 square kilometers (about 1.2 square miles). A large part of this area, almost half, is covered by forests. About 28.7% of the land is used for farming. The rest of the land, about 23.9%, has buildings and roads.

The town is located in the middle of the Ergolz valley. The older part of Itingen is found near the old main road and close to the train line that connects Basel and Olten.

Itingen's Coat of Arms
