Life and Early Years
Ivan Lins was born in Ituverava, a city in São Paulo, Brazil. When he was younger, he lived in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. This was because his father, who was a naval engineer, was studying at M.I.T.. Ivan later studied at the Military College in Rio de Janeiro. He also earned a degree in industrial chemical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Before he became a musician, Ivan Lins even thought about playing professional volleyball! But he soon discovered his amazing talent for music. Today, Ivan Lins lives in both Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Lisbon, Portugal. He was married to Lucinha Lins, and they have two children, including Cláudio Lins.
Musical Journey and Famous Songs
Ivan Lins has released many albums throughout his career. He has also written several well-known songs that have become classics. Some of these include "Love Dance" and "Começar de Novo" (which means "Starting Over"). The English version of "Começar de Novo" is called "The Island."
In the mid-1980s, Ivan Lins worked with jazz musicians Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour on an album called Harlequin. This album was very successful and popular. Ivan Lins also wrote the music for the Brazilian movie Dois Córregos.
