Jaime Bryant Piet Peters (born May 4, 1987) is a former professional soccer player from Canada. He played as a right wing-back, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack on the side of the field. Jaime represented his home country, Canada, in many different soccer teams. He was also part of the U20 team that played in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Early Days in Soccer

Jaime Peters grew up in a place called Pickering, Ontario, in Canada. When he was young, he played soccer for youth teams like North Scarborough SC and C.S. Azzurri, which was based in Toronto.

In 2003, Jaime joined the youth team of a German soccer club named 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Two years later, he had a big decision to make. Famous English clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United wanted him to join their teams. But Jaime chose to go to Ipswich Town instead. He made this choice because his former coach for the Canadian team, Frank Yallop, suggested it.

Jaime spent the rest of that season with Ipswich Town's academy team. He needed a special permit to work and play in England, which he finally received in the summer.

Playing for Ipswich Town

Soon after getting his work permit, Jaime Peters played his first game for Ipswich Town. He came into the game as a substitute in the second half. Ipswich Town won that game 1–0 against Cardiff City. This was the very first game of the 2005–06 season! Even though he faced competition from other players and had some injuries, he played in thirteen games that season. He also scored three goals in a reserve team game, helping Ipswich win 8–1 against Watford's reserve team.

For the 2006–07 season, the manager, Jim Magilton, told Jaime he could go to another club on loan. This would help him get more experience playing in first-team games. But Jaime decided to stay with Ipswich. He played in eleven games and was even given the "most improved player" award for that season! After winning the award, he signed a new three-year contract with the club.

After playing a few games on loan at Gillingham (we'll talk about loans soon!), Jaime returned to Ipswich. He played his first game back for the 2008–09 season on April 19. It was a big derby game against Norwich City, and Ipswich won 3–2. Jaime came on as a substitute. He played in two more games that season, making three appearances in total.

When Jaime came back to Ipswich from his loan spells in mid-2009, the new manager, Roy Keane, tried him out in a new position: right back. Jaime had an injury at the start of the season, but he returned to the first team on September 12, 2009, against Middlesbrough. He then signed a new contract that kept him at the club until 2013. Ten days later, on December 26, 2009, Jaime scored his first goal for Ipswich Town! It was in a game they lost 3–1 against Crystal Palace. He finished the 2009–10 season having played thirty-four games and scoring one goal.

Playing as a right back really helped Jaime. He became a regular player for the first 15 games of the 2010–11 season. He scored his first goal of that season against Scunthorpe United on September 25, in a 1–1 draw. Jaime had one of his best games for Ipswich in a League Cup semi-final match against Arsenal on January 12, 2011. He played so well against Arsenal's player Andrei Arshavin that Arsenal's manager had to take Arshavin out of the game! Ipswich won that game 1–0.

However, after a new manager, Paul Jewell, took over in January, Jaime found it harder to get into the first team. He only played 12 minutes in one league game over a period of 14 matches. Despite this, he still played in thirty games and scored one goal during the 2010–11 season.

Jaime's first game of the 2011–12 season was in the League Cup on August 9, against Northampton Town. Ipswich lost that game 2–1. After his loan at AFC Bournemouth ended, Jaime didn't play any more games for Ipswich during the rest of that season. The manager, Paul Jewell, told Jaime that he wasn't part of his plans for the next season. So, on August 23, 2012, Jaime and the club agreed to end his contract. This brought his seven years with Ipswich Town to an end.

Loan Adventures

After playing six games in the first half of the 2007–08 season, Jaime was loaned out to Yeovil Town. A "loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team. Jaime made his debut for Yeovil Town on February 2, 2008, in a 2–0 loss against Huddersfield Town. Even though he had an ankle injury, he returned to play and scored a goal in the last game of the season. He played fourteen games and scored once for Yeovil.

Jaime didn't play any games for Ipswich in the first half of the 2008–09 season. So, on January 22, 2009, he joined Gillingham on a one-month loan. He played his first game for Gillingham on January 24, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 win. While at Gillingham, he played alongside another Canadian player, Simeon Jackson. After playing three games, his loan spell with Gillingham ended.

Jaime continued to struggle for playing time at Ipswich. In late September, he was loaned out again, this time to Bournemouth in League One. He made his debut for Bournemouth on September 24, 2011, playing for 84 minutes in a 2–1 loss. The manager, Lee Bradbury, was impressed with Jaime and extended his loan for a second month. Jaime returned to Ipswich in early December. He had played eight league games and two cup games while on loan at Bournemouth.

Later in His Career

After leaving Ipswich, Jaime Peters went on trial with Yeovil Town, hoping to sign a new contract with his former loan club.

In January 2013, Jaime also tried out for a team in his home country, Canada. He went on trial with Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps FC. However, he was released from the trial in mid-February.

After almost nine years away from professional soccer, Jaime Peters joined a semi-professional team called Master's FA in League1 Ontario for the 2021 season.

Playing for Canada

Jaime Peters played for the Canada U20 national team in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was also an important player and a member of the Canada U20 team in the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship, which was held in Canada.

He made his first appearance for the Canada senior national team in August 2004. He was only 17 years old at the time! This game was against Guatemala. Throughout his time playing for Canada, he played 26 games and scored one goal. He also played in five FIFA World Cup qualification matches and in the 2005 and 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments. Jaime scored his only goal for Canada in a friendly game against Panama on June 4, 2008.
