Jamie Paul Durie is an Australian expert in plants and garden design. He is also a furniture designer, TV host, TV producer, and author. Jamie has written eleven books about garden design and how to live well.
Jamie Durie hosted the Australian TV show The Outdoor Room in 2008. He also hosted HGTV Showdown in 2009. From 2007 to 2010, he hosted the US show The Victory Garden, which is one of the longest-running gardening shows on PBS. In November 2024, his new show Growing Home with Jamie Durie started on Channel 7. This series showed how he made his family home eco-friendly and able to run without outside power.

Jamie Durie's Early Life
Jamie Durie was born in Manly, New South Wales, Australia, in 1970. He spent his early years in Tom Price, Western Australia. His grandmother, Daphne de Zylva, was from Sri Lanka. She met his English grandfather during World War II. They moved to Australia in the 1950s.
When Jamie was 10, his parents separated. He moved to the Gold Coast with his mother and brother. Jamie left high school at age 15. He then learned how to make cabinets and also modeled beachwear. When he was 26, he finished a four-year course in plant care and garden design.
TV Shows and Garden Design
In 1998, Jamie Durie started his own garden design company called Patio Landscape Architecture and Design. Later, in 2002, he registered a new company, JPD Media & Design. He then became a host for popular TV shows like Backyard Blitz and The Block.
In 2007, Jamie was a contestant on the Australian show Dancing with the Stars. He finished in 7th place. That same year, he hosted Australia's Best Backyards on the Seven Network. This show was about designing gardens, similar to Backyard Blitz.
Jamie also filmed lifestyle segments with Oprah Winfrey for her TV channel. He says that Oprah helped him start his career in the United States. Because of her support, Jamie moved to the US.

In 2010, Jamie's company, Patio Landscape Architecture and Design, changed its name to Durie Design. This company focuses on creating exciting outdoor spaces and designing unique furniture.
Jamie has designed furniture for famous people in Hollywood. He created 100 pieces of furniture for comedian Chelsea Handler. He also designed gardens for actress Charlize Theron for two years.

The Australian TV show Backyard Blitz, which Jamie hosted, won six Logie Awards for Most Popular Lifestyle Program from 2001 to 2006. Jamie himself won the Most Popular New Talent award in 2001. He was also nominated for Most Popular Presenter for his work on Backyard Blitz from 2003 to 2005.
Jamie's 2003 book, Patio - Garden Design and Inspiration, was recognized for its design. In 2008, Jamie won a gold medal at the famous Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show in London, England. His "Australian Garden" design, which cost AU$800,000, was built by a team of 22 workers in just 16 days. All the materials for the garden were shipped from Australia.

In 2013, Jamie started working with an Italian luxury furniture company called Natuzzi Group Riva 1920. Jamie Durie owns homes in Pittwater, near Sydney, Australia, and in Los Angeles, USA. He is not married but has been engaged three times. He has said that his focus on his career has sometimes affected his relationships.
Jamie has a grown-up daughter named Taylor from a past relationship. She lives in Los Angeles. Jamie enjoys spending time with her, going camping, surfing, and bike riding. He wants to find more balance in his life.
Jamie is currently engaged to Ameka Jane. They have two children together.
Every year, Jamie Durie gives his time and help to many charities. These include the FSHD Global Research Foundation, the Children's Cancer Institute, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney. He has also been a strong supporter of Tour de Cure. This charity raises money for cancer research. In March 2024, Jamie cycled over 1,200 km in one week for the Tour de Cure Signature Tour. This helped raise important funds for cancer research and support across Australia.
