Jamie Sharper facts for kids

Harry James Sharper Jr. (born November 23, 1974) is an American football coach and former player. He played as a linebacker for nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Jamie Sharper also played college football for the Virginia Cavaliers.

The Baltimore Ravens picked him in the second round of the 1997 NFL draft. Sharper played five seasons with the Ravens. He was a key part of the team that won their first Super Bowl in Super Bowl XXXV. In 2002, the Houston Texans chose him in their expansion draft. He played three seasons with the Texans. His final season in 2005 was with the Seattle Seahawks. Jamie is the older brother of former football player Darren Sharper.

Playing Career Highlights

Jamie Sharper went to Hermitage High School in Henrico County, Virginia. He played American football there as a linebacker. His younger brother, Darren, also played football for the school. After high school, Jamie went to the University of Virginia. He played college football for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Starting in the NFL

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Jamie Sharper as the 34th overall pick in the 1997 NFL draft. He made a big impact right away. In his first year, he had 68 tackles, three sacks, and one interception.

Super Bowl Champion

Sharper became an important player for the Ravens' defense in 2000. This defense was known for being one of the best ever. He made a very important interception that helped send Baltimore to the Super Bowl. He then started in Super Bowl XXXV, where the Ravens won the championship. During his time with the Ravens, he had 328 tackles, 14 sacks, 2 interceptions, and one touchdown.

Moving to New Teams

After the 2001 season, the Houston Texans picked him in their expansion draft. He played for the Texans from 2002 to 2004. From 2003 to 2004, he led the entire NFL in tackles with 301.

After the 2004 season, he joined the Seattle Seahawks for one year. He helped the Seahawks reach their first Super Bowl. Sharper retired after that season because of a knee injury. During his nine-year career, he only missed 8 games. He played in 136 games in a row before his final season.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Jamie Sharper started coaching. He joined the coaching staff at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. He was the Linebackers coach there from 2016 to 2018.

In August 2018, he joined the Georgetown University football team. He was the assistant linebackers coach until 2021. From 2021 to 2022, he worked as the Defensive Line coach for Georgetown.

Sharper was also hired by the DC Defenders on September 13, 2022. He coached linebackers and special teams for them in 2023.
