Jarrett Brown (born January 23, 1987) is a former American football quarterback. A quarterback is the player who leads the team's offense. He played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers. After college, he joined the San Francisco 49ers. He was signed as an undrafted free agent, meaning no team picked him in the main draft. Jarrett also played for other teams like the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. Later, he played in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League. In 2019, he played for the West Virginia Roughriders.

Jarrett Brown's Early Life and Sports

Jarrett Brown was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. His parents were James and Sherry Brown. He went to Palm Beach Lakes High School. There, he was a star in both football and basketball. He earned a "letter" (an award for athletic achievement) in basketball every year.

High School Football Achievements

During his high school football career, Jarrett was amazing. He threw for over 7,100 passing yards. He also scored 73 touchdowns. In his final year, he threw for 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also ran for 485 yards.

The Sun-Sentinel newspaper named him their player of the year. He was also chosen as the best quarterback in his division (6-A level). Many colleges wanted him to play for them. He received scholarship offers from several universities.

Jarrett Brown's College Football Journey

In 2005, Jarrett went to West Virginia University. He studied athletic coaching education. He spent his first year as a "redshirt" player. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his playing eligibility.

Learning and Growing in 2006

In 2006, Jarrett played in six games. He was a backup to the main quarterback, Pat White. Against Marshall, he scored a touchdown by running the ball himself. This is called a "quarterback keeper."

He also played well against Eastern Washington. He completed 11 passes for 129 yards. He even started a game against Rutgers when Pat White was hurt. Jarrett threw for 244 yards and one touchdown in that game. He also ran for 73 yards and another touchdown. He threw the winning touchdown pass in triple overtime.

Playing as a Reserve in 2007 and 2008

In 2007, Jarrett played in ten games. He was still a reserve player. He completed 31 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 327 yards and three touchdowns. When Pat White got injured against South Florida, Jarrett stepped in. He passed for 149 yards and a touchdown. After the football season, he even played basketball for the Mountaineers!

In 2008, Jarrett played in nine games. He started one game. He often played in "short-yardage" situations. This is when the team needs only a few yards to get a first down or score. He helped West Virginia win against Rutgers when Pat White was injured. Jarrett said he was happy to play any role that helped the team.

Becoming the Starting Quarterback in 2009

After Pat White graduated, Jarrett became the starting quarterback for the 2009 season. He led the Mountaineers to a 35–20 win against East Carolina. He completed 24 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns! Because of this great game, he was named the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The next week, West Virginia lost to Auburn. Jarrett threw four interceptions (when the other team catches your pass). He also lost one fumble (when you drop the ball). But his coach, Bill Stewart, still believed in him. He said Jarrett was learning.

Jarrett got a mild concussion (a head injury) in the Marshall game. He was replaced by another player, Geno Smith. But he returned for the next game. He helped his team win against Pittsburgh with a game-winning field goal. In the last regular season game, he ran for a first down on a "naked bootleg" play. This is when the quarterback fakes a handoff and runs with the ball. This play helped West Virginia win 24–21 against Rutgers.

Jarrett got an ankle injury in the 2010 Gator Bowl game. He was replaced by Geno Smith again.
