Jason Duane Jones (born May 23, 1986) is a former American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Jason played college football for the Eastern Michigan Eagles. He was chosen by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft. Jason also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints.

Jason Jones' Early Life & High School Sports

Jason Jones grew up in Lathrup Village, Michigan. He went to Southfield-Lathrup High School. There, he was a fantastic athlete in both football and basketball. In his senior year, he was named first-team All-Oakland Athletic Association.

He made 27 tackles, got six sacks, and forced four fumbles. He also had seven interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns. As a receiver, he caught 25 passes for 395 yards and scored eight touchdowns. The Detroit News listed him as the 44th-best player in Michigan. Jason comes from a family of athletes. His younger brother, Brian LaWan Alexander, was a professional basketball player. His older brother, Michael, played football at Alabama State. Another brother, Jamar, works for the Secret Service.

Jason's College Football Career

Jason Jones played college football for Eastern Michigan University. In 2007, his senior year, he was recognized as a third-team All-American. He also earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors. He played in all 12 games, starting 11 of them.

He finished fourth on his team with 70 tackles. He was tied for seventh in the NCAA with 19.5 stops for losses. Jason also had 10 quarterback pressures, recovered a fumble, and forced another. He broke up three passes and blocked a kick. He was chosen to play in the 2008 Senior Bowl All-Star Game. In that game, he made three tackles, one sack, and forced a fumble. Jason also won the Harold E. Sponberg Award. This award goes to the team's best scholar-athlete lineman.

Jason Jones' Professional NFL Journey

Jason Jones was picked by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the 54th player chosen overall.

Playing for the Tennessee Titans

Jason started playing for the Titans in 2008. He even started a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers when other players were injured. In his first season, he had 31 tackles and 5 sacks in 13 games. He had a great game against the Steelers, getting 3.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. In a game against the Houston Texans, Jason had to leave early. He was later placed on injured reserve in December 2009 due to a shoulder injury.

Time with the Seattle Seahawks

On March 17, 2012, Jason Jones signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He played for them for one season.

Joining the Detroit Lions

On March 13, 2013, Jason signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Sadly, in Week 3 of the 2013 NFL Season, he got a knee injury. This injury ended his season early.

With the Miami Dolphins

Jason signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on May 13, 2016. He was released by the Dolphins on January 6, 2017.

Briefly with the New Orleans Saints

On August 12, 2017, Jason Jones signed with the New Orleans Saints. However, he was released by the Saints on August 29, 2017.
