Jay Rodne's Public Service
Jay Rodne has had an interesting career in both politics and the military. He has worked to represent people and serve his country.
Working in the Legislature
When Jay Rodne was a state representative, he helped create new laws. He was the main person behind 13 bills during the 2015–2016 session. Being a "primary sponsor" means he introduced these ideas for new laws.
One important bill he helped with was HB 2453. This bill passed with everyone agreeing. It was designed to make sure state mental hospitals were managed better. He also worked on committees that deal with transportation, health care, and legal matters. On the Judiciary Committee, he was the "ranking minority member." This means he was the most senior member from the minority party on that committee.
Military Service
Jay Rodne is a high-ranking officer, a Colonel, in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. The Reserve is a part of the military where people train regularly but are not always on active duty. They can be called upon when needed.
He was in charge of the 4th Landing Support Battalion, which is based in Fort Lewis, Washington. He has served overseas several times. In 2003, he was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Before that, he deployed to Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War. These were important missions to help keep peace and protect people.
Public Discussions and Views
After the November 2015 Paris attacks, Jay Rodne made some comments on Facebook that caused a lot of discussion. He later clarified his views, stating that most of the world's Muslims are peaceful. He also said that those living in America want to enjoy the freedoms of the country.
Working as a Consultant
In April 2019, Jay Rodne started a new role as a consultant. He registered as a "foreign agent" to work with the Kingdom of Cambodia. This means he helps another country with advice and connections. His company, which he co-owns, was hired to help arrange official visits between leaders and business people from the United States and Cambodia.
