The Jenkintown–Wyncote station is a busy train station in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's part of the SEPTA Regional Rail system. You can find it where Greenwood Avenue and West Avenue meet, right on the border of Jenkintown and the Wyncote area.
This station is super important! It's the sixth busiest station in the whole Regional Rail system. It's also the busiest one outside of Center City Philadelphia. Even though it's so busy, the station isn't set up for wheelchairs yet. But don't worry, SEPTA (the company that runs the trains) has plans to make it wheelchair friendly soon.
Station History
The first Jenkintown–Wyncote station was built way back in 1872. It was built by a company called the North Pennsylvania Railroad. Later, in 1932, the Reading Railroad replaced it with the building you see today.
This newer station building is quite special. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. This means it's an important historical place! The station is in fare zone 3, which helps determine the cost of your train ticket. It also has a big parking lot with 450 spaces for cars.
Train Services
Jenkintown–Wyncote station is a hub for several train lines. It serves the Lansdale/Doylestown Line, the Warminster Line, and the West Trenton Line. These three lines make it a very active station.
Because so many lines pass through, it's the sixth busiest station in the SEPTA Regional Rail system. It's also the busiest one outside of Philadelphia's city center. On an average weekday, about 1,998 people get on trains here, and 1,660 people get off.
Station Layout
The Jenkintown–Wyncote station has two platforms. A platform is the area next to the tracks where you wait for the train. These are called side platforms because they are on each side of the tracks.
You can get from one platform to the other by using a tunnel that goes underneath the train tracks. This helps people safely cross from one side to the other.
