Jesé Rodríguez: A Football Star's Journey
Early Days at Real Madrid
Jesé was born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands. He started his football journey with a local team called Huracán in 2005. At 14, he joined Real Madrid's famous youth academy in 2007.
He made his first senior appearance for Real Madrid's reserve team, Real Madrid Castilla, in January 2011. His early performances led to comparisons with football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Jesé spent most of his time with the youth teams but was promoted to the Castilla side permanently.
Breaking into the First Team
In July 2011, Jesé joined Real Madrid's main team for their pre-season tour. He played his first friendly game against Los Angeles Galaxy and even scored a goal. He made his official debut for Real Madrid on December 12, 2011, in the Copa del Rey. He replaced Ronaldo for the last 15 minutes of the game.
He played his first La Liga game on March 24, 2012. He again replaced Ronaldo in a 5–1 win. During this time, he helped the Castilla team win the Segunda División B championship.
Rising Influence and Injury
Jesé signed a new contract with Real Madrid in July 2013. He made his Champions League debut in October 2013. He scored his first goal for Real Madrid in his first El Clásico match against Barcelona.
He had a great run of form in late 2013 and early 2014, scoring important goals. However, on March 18, 2014, Jesé suffered a very serious knee injury during a Champions League game. This injury kept him out of action for the rest of the season. He ended that season with 8 goals in 31 games. Real Madrid went on to win the Copa del Rey and Champions League that year.
After nine months, Jesé returned from his injury in December 2014. He scored a goal in his comeback game. Despite his return, he found it hard to get back into the main team. He often started games on the bench.
Moving to Paris Saint-Germain
In August 2016, Jesé joined French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a fee of €25 million. He made his debut for PSG on August 13. He scored his first goal for the club in November. However, Jesé struggled to settle in Paris and did not play much.
Loan Spells and Returns
In January 2017, Jesé went on loan to Las Palmas, his hometown club. He even took a big pay cut to join them. He played 16 games and scored three goals for Las Palmas.
In August 2017, he joined Premier League club Stoke City on loan. He scored the winning goal in his debut game against Arsenal. However, his time at Stoke was difficult. He had to miss games to visit his son, who was born prematurely. He also had some disagreements with the club. He scored one goal in 13 games for Stoke.
After returning to PSG, Jesé was loaned out again. In January 2019, he joined Real Betis in Spain. He scored two goals in 18 games for them. In September 2019, he moved to Portuguese club Sporting CP on loan. He scored one goal there.
In December 2020, Jesé and Paris Saint-Germain agreed to end his contract early. He then returned to Las Palmas for a second time in February 2021. He played 57 games and scored 13 goals in his second stint with the club.
New Adventures in Football
After Las Palmas, Jesé joined Turkish club Ankaragücü in August 2022. He scored two goals in 14 league games for them. His contract ended in January 2023.
In February 2023, he moved to Italian club Sampdoria. He scored one goal in 11 games. Later that year, he joined Brazilian club Coritiba and scored one goal in six games.
In October 2024, Jesé joined Malaysia Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim. He made his debut for them in the 2024–25 AFC Champions League Elite.
Playing Style
Jesé is a versatile player who can play in many attacking roles. He can be an attacking midfielder, a second striker, or a centre-forward. His favorite position is out on the wing.
He is known for his ability to use both feet. He can also keep the ball well and dribble past defenders. Many people compared his style of play to Cristiano Ronaldo because of his speed and technical skills. Jesé himself said that Ronaldo was his favorite player.
International Career with Spain's Youth Teams
Jesé played for Spain's national youth teams from under-16 to under-21.
In 2010, he played in the European Under-17 Championship. Spain finished as runners-up to England. Jesé scored one goal in the tournament.
Two years later, in 2012, Jesé scored five goals in the European Under-19 Championship in Estonia. This included three goals against Portugal and the winning goal in the final against Greece. He won the Golden Boot award as the top goal scorer.
