Jhajjar is a town in the Haryana state of India. It's part of the Delhi National Capital Region, which means it's close to Delhi. Jhajjar is about 55 kilometers (34 miles) west of Delhi. It's also connected by major roads to other cities like Rohtak and Rewari.
Jhajjar is well-known for its brave soldiers. Many young people from Jhajjar join the Indian Army to serve their country.
The Jhajjar district covers an area of 1,890 square kilometers (730 sq mi). In 2001, about 709,000 people lived here. The district has two industrial areas with many businesses. Some main industries include ceramics, glass, chemicals, and electronics. Farmers in Jhajjar grow important crops like rice, wheat, and maize. About 670 square kilometers (260 sq mi) of farmland are irrigated.
The town's name might come from its founder, Chhaju. Some say it was first called Chhajunagar. Another idea is that the name comes from "Jharnaghar," meaning a natural fountain. A third theory suggests it's named after "Jhajjar," a water pot, because rainwater flows into the town like into a sink.
Ms. Geeta Bhukkal from the Indian National Congress is the current MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for Jhajjar.
