Jhayco's Early Life
Jhayco was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Later, he moved to Camden, New Jersey. There, he learned to speak English.
Jhayco started writing songs when he was 15 years old. A music producer named Eddie Dee became interested in his talent. Jhayco wrote music with other artists like Lele el Arma Secreta and Eliel. They introduced him to the music group Zion & Lennox. Jhayco wrote three songs for Zion & Lennox's 2011 album, Los Verdaderos. These songs were "Como curar," "Detective de tu amor," and "Soltera." He used the name Jay el Superdotado for these songs.
Jhayco also wrote five songs for the artist Tito El Bambino. One of these was "Llama al Sol," which was on Tito El Bambino's 2011 album, Invencible. This album won a Latin Grammy award for Best Tropical Album.
Jhayco's Music Career
In 2013, Jhayco began his singing career with the Latin pop group Stereo 4. This group had four singers from Puerto Rico. Jhayco later started his own solo music career. He worked with Stereo 4 one last time in 2016 on the song "Te quiero ver."
On August 22, 2017, Jhayco became the first artist to sign with House of Haze. This was a new music partnership. It was created by Universal Music Latino and producer Fino como el Haze. Jhayco released his first song under this label, "Donde no se vea." He worked with Jory Boy and Pusho on this song.
On March 16, 2018, Jhayco performed at the SXSW music festival. He was part of the "Sounds from Puerto Rico" show.
Jhayco helped write popular songs like "Criminal" by Natti Natasha and Ozuna. He also helped write "Mi Religión" by Yandel. On May 16, 2018, he released his EP called Eyez on Me. This was under the Universal Music Latino label. At the end of 2018, he released the song "Costear" with Almighty. This song later had two different remix versions.
On February 22, 2019, Jhayco released the song "No Me Conoce." This song became very popular in Latin America. It was certified triple platinum in Spain. A remix of the song with J Balvin and Bad Bunny was also released. This remix earned 20 platinum certifications in the US. In the same year, he released "Deseame suerte" with Karol G. On May 24, 2019, his first studio album, Famouz, came out. It was released by Universal Music Latino. The album reached number 164 on the US Billboard 200 chart. It also earned a triple platinum certification.
In 2020, Jhayco released a special version of his first album. It included new songs and was called Famouz Reloaded. He also released a new song, "Dime a Ve." This song was planned for his second album, Timelezz. Jhayco won five ASCAP awards for his songwriting. He also won two Tú Música Urbano Awards. These were for Composer of the Year and New Generation Album for Famouz. He was nominated for several other big awards. These included the Billboard Latin Music Awards and the Latin Grammys. On October 30, he released the song "Dakiti" with Bad Bunny. This song reached number one on the Billboard Global 200 charts. It also made it into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 9. Later that year, he worked on the remix of "La Curiosidad" by Jay Wheeler and Myke Towers. He also appeared on Yandel's album Quien Contra Mí 2 for the song "Ponme al día."
At the start of 2021, Jhayco worked with Los Legendarios on the song "Fiel" with Wisin. This song became very popular, reaching number 9 globally on Spotify. On March 14, he performed "Dakiti" with Bad Bunny at the Grammy Awards. He also received another award nomination for "Dakiti." This was for Latin Pop/Reggaeton Song of the Year.
