Jiah Khan (born Nafisa Rizvi Khan, February 20, 1988 – June 3, 2013) was a talented British-American actress and singer. She became known for her roles in three Hindi films between 2007 and 2010.
Jiah was born in New York City to Indian parents. She grew up and went to school in London. She dreamed of becoming an actress and moved to Mumbai, India, to start her film career. Her first movie was Nishabd in 2007, which earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She was also praised for playing a modern, independent woman in Ghajini, which was the highest-earning Bollywood film of 2008. After a short break, she returned in 2010 with a funny role in the romantic comedy Housefull. This film was also very successful, becoming one of the top five highest-earning Bollywood films that year.

Early life and inspiration
Jiah Khan was born in New York City, United States. Her family was Muslim. Her father, Ali Rizvi Khan, was an Indian American businessman. Her mother, Rabiya Amin, was a Hindi film actress in the 1980s from Agra, India. Jiah's father left the family when she was two years old.
Jiah grew up in London. She completed her Edexcel O level and A level studies there, earning excellent grades. She then moved to Mumbai to start her career in Bollywood. Jiah was inspired to become an actress after watching the movie Rangeela when she was just six years old. This movie featured Urmila Matondkar, who was a student of director Ram Gopal Verma.
Jiah also studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Manhattan. However, she left the institute when she received an offer for a movie role. She was also a skilled dancer, learning many styles like salsa, belly dancing, kathak, lambada, jazz, samba, and reggae.
Film career highlights
In 2007, when she was 18, Jiah Khan made her acting debut in the romantic thriller Nishabd. She played the character of Jia, acting alongside the famous actor Amitabh Bachchan. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and did not perform well at the box office.
The next year, Jiah appeared in the psychological thriller Ghajini. She starred with Aamir Khan and Asin in this film, which was a Hindi remake of a South Indian movie. Jiah played Sunita, a medical student who tries to understand the past of Sanjay Singhania, played by Aamir Khan. Critics really liked Ghajini, and it became the highest-earning Bollywood film of 2008.
In 2010, Jiah made her final film appearance in Housefull. She played Devika K. Samtani, the ex-wife of Akshay Kumar's character. The movie had many popular actors, including Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, and Lara Dutta. While Housefull received some negative reviews, Jiah's performance was well-received. The film was a big commercial success and became one of the highest-earning Bollywood films of that year. Jiah had signed up for a few more movies, but they were not completed.
Later life
Jiah Khan passed away on June 3, 2013, at her home in Juhu, Mumbai.
