Jimmy Durmaz, born on March 22, 1989, is a professional football player from Sweden. He plays as a midfielder. He recently played for Gençlerbirliği.
He started his football journey at BK Forward. In 2008, he joined Malmö FF and helped them win the Allsvenskan league title in 2010. Later, he played for Gençlerbirliği in Turkey and Olympiacos in Greece. With Olympiacos, he won two Greek league titles and one Greek Cup.
Jimmy first played for the Swedish national team in 2011. He also represented Sweden in big tournaments like UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life and Family Background
Jimmy Durmaz was born in Örebro, Sweden. His family is Assyrian and follows the Syriac Orthodox faith. His father, Semun, moved to Sweden from Midyat in southeastern Turkey. His mother is also Assyrian, but from Lebanon. Jimmy's younger brother, Elias Durmaz, is also a football player. Both brothers play as midfielders.
Jimmy Durmaz's Club Career
Playing for Malmö FF
Jimmy Durmaz joined Malmö FF in July 2008. He played his first game in Sweden's top league, the Allsvenskan, on July 14, 2008, against Hammarby IF.
He really started to shine in the 2010 season. That year, he played in 27 games and started 15 of them, helping Malmö FF win the league title. In 2011, he scored the first goal in a friendly match against AC Milan. He continued to play regularly, finishing the 2011 season with 27 league matches and four goals.
Moving to Gençlerbirliği
In June 2012, Jimmy signed a three-year contract with the Turkish club Gençlerbirliği S.K.. During his time there, he scored 11 goals and helped set up six others in 61 league games.
Time at Olympiacos
After two seasons in Turkey, Durmaz moved to the Greek club Olympiacos in August 2014. He scored his first goal for them on September 14 against OFI Crete. On January 29, 2015, he scored three goals in one game (a hat-trick) during an 8-0 win over Tyrnavos in a Greek Cup match.
Playing for Toulouse
In August 2016, Jimmy joined Ligue 1 club Toulouse in France. The transfer fee was about €2.5 million. On August 26, 2017, he scored two goals, both from penalties, in Toulouse's 3–2 win against Stade Rennais. This brought his goal count for that season to three, which was more than he scored in the entire previous season.
Joining Galatasaray
On July 2, 2019, Durmaz moved to Süper Lig champions Galatasaray S.K. for free after his contract with Toulouse ended. He signed a three-year deal. He made his first appearance for Galatasaray in the 2019 Turkish Super Cup on August 7, 2019. He played 81 minutes in their 1–0 victory over Akhisar.
Playing for Fatih Karagümrük
On October 2, 2020, Jimmy was loaned from Galatasaray to Fatih Karagümrük, another Super League team. On August 4, 2021, he signed a permanent contract with Fatih Karagümrük for two more seasons.
Returning to Sweden with AIK
On January 12, 2023, Durmaz signed a contract with AIK in Sweden. His contract was set to run until December 31, 2024.
Back to Gençlerbirliği
In January 2024, Jimmy Durmaz returned to his former club, Gençlerbirliği, signing an eighteen-month contract.
International Career with Sweden
Jimmy Durmaz made his first appearance for the Swedish national team on February 8, 2011. This was in a friendly game against Cyprus. He was chosen for Sweden's annual training camp in January 2012. This camp usually includes the best Swedish players from leagues in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries.
Durmaz played for Sweden in Euro 2016. He was also part of Sweden's 23-man team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in one game during the tournament, coming on as a substitute against Germany. After the game, he received some negative comments online. However, it was found that many of these comments were not from real people but from automated accounts.
