Jakup Jimmy Durmaz (born March 22, 1989) is a Swedish professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder, a position that often controls the game in the middle of the field. He currently plays for the Turkish club Etimesgut Belediyespor.
Durmaz started his career in Sweden with BK Forward. He later moved to Malmö FF, where he helped the team win the Swedish league title, Allsvenskan, in 2010. He has also played for teams in Turkey and Greece, winning two league titles and a cup with the Greek club Olympiacos.
In 2011, Durmaz began playing for the Swedish national team. He was chosen to represent his country in major tournaments like UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life and Background
Jimmy Durmaz was born in Örebro, Sweden. His family is Aramean and belongs to the Syriac Orthodox faith. His father came to Sweden from Midyat, a town in southeastern Turkey. His mother is an Aramean from Lebanon.

Starting in Sweden
Durmaz first played for BK Forward before joining the bigger club Malmö FF in 2008. He made his first appearance in Sweden's top league, Allsvenskan, on July 14, 2008.
His big moment came in 2010 when he became a key player for Malmö. He helped them win the league that year. In 2011, he even scored a goal against the famous Italian team AC Milan in a friendly match.
Moving to Turkey and Greece
In 2012, Durmaz moved to Turkey to play for Gençlerbirliği. He played there for two seasons, scoring 11 goals in 61 league games.
After his time in Turkey, he signed with the Greek champions Olympiacos in 2014. With Olympiacos, he won two league titles and a Greek Cup. He scored his first hat-trick (three goals in one game) in a cup match in 2015.
Playing in France
In August 2016, Durmaz joined the French club Toulouse. In one exciting game in 2017, he scored two goals from penalty kicks to help his team win 3–2.
Return to Turkey and Sweden
Durmaz joined the famous Turkish club Galatasaray in 2019. With them, he won the Turkish Super Cup. He later played for another Turkish team, Fatih Karagümrük, first on loan and then permanently.
In 2023, he returned to Sweden to play for AIK. Then, in January 2024, he went back to his former Turkish club, Gençlerbirliği. As of 2025, he plays for Etimesgut Belediyespor.
International Career with Sweden
Durmaz made his first appearance for the senior Swedish national team on February 8, 2011. He was chosen for the squad that played in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.
2018 FIFA World Cup
Durmaz was also part of Sweden's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in one match against Germany. Near the end of the game, he gave away a free kick, and Germany scored from it to win 2–1.
After the match, Durmaz received many hateful and racist messages on social media. This was a very difficult experience. However, experts later found that most of the abusive comments were not from real people but were created by automated computer programs called bots.
