Jingle All the Way is a fun 1996 American Christmas family action comedy film. It was directed by Brian Levant and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad. Other actors include Phil Hartman, Rita Wilson, Jake Lloyd, James Belushi, and Robert Conrad.
The movie is about two dads, Howard Langston (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Myron Larabee (played by Sinbad). Both are trying very hard to find a popular toy called Turbo-Man for their sons on Christmas Eve. They get into all sorts of funny adventures while trying to buy the last-minute toy.
The idea for the film came from real-life toy crazes. These were times when toys like Cabbage Patch Kids or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were so popular that stores would sell out quickly. The movie was filmed in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, including the famous Mall of America. Some scenes, like the big parade at the end, were filmed in California.
Movie Release and Toy Craze
The movie was made quite quickly, so there wasn't a lot of time to make many toys to sell with it. They did make a 13.5-inch talking Turbo-Man action figure. There was also a special Turbo-Man Time Racer vehicle sold only on the West Coast.
When Jingle All the Way came out, there was a real-life toy craze happening for a doll called Tickle Me Elmo. People were rushing to stores to buy this doll, much like the crowds shown in the movie trying to get Turbo-Man.
The movie first showed on November 16, 1996, at the Mall of America. This was a special event because parts of the movie were filmed there. The film officially opened in theaters on November 22, 1996. It made $12.1 million in its first weekend. Overall, the movie earned about $129 million around the world. This was more than its $75 million cost to make.
You could watch Jingle All the Way at home starting in October 1997 on VHS tapes. It later came out on DVD in November 1998. An extended version with extra scenes was released in October 2007. This version was called the "Family Fun Edition." It also came out on Blu-ray Disc in December 2008.
Sequel Film
A follow-up movie, Jingle All the Way 2, was released in December 2014. This movie went straight to DVD. It has a similar story about a dad trying to get a popular toy. However, it's not directly connected to the first movie. None of the original actors or characters returned. The main roles were played by Larry the Cable Guy and Santino Marella.

But it also features many other Christmas songs and new songs by the Brian Setzer Orchestra that were in the movie. A special edition of David Newman's full music score was released later in November 2008.
