John Stewart Herrington (born May 31, 1939) is an American politician and businessman. He is a member of the Republican Party. John Herrington is best known for serving as the United States Secretary of Energy. He held this important role under President Ronald Reagan.

Early Life and Education

John Herrington was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up and went to school there. He attended Stanford University, a well-known college. In 1961, he earned his first degree from Stanford.

Studying Law

After Stanford, John Herrington went to law school. He studied at the University of California School of Law. He earned his law degree in 1964. While at Stanford, he joined a group called the Delta Upsilon fraternity.

Starting His Career

From 1965 to 1981, John Herrington worked as a lawyer. He mostly practiced law in San Francisco. He also worked for the government in Ventura County. There, he was a deputy district attorney.

Public Service and Government Roles

John Herrington served in the government for many years. He worked during the time of President Ronald Reagan. These roles were very important for the country.

Working for the Navy
