Jordan Malone, born on April 20, 1984, is an American short track speed skater. He was part of the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jordan is from Denton, Texas. He also competed in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

About Jordan Malone

Jordan Malone grew up in Denton, Texas. He is the only child of his mom, Peggy Aitken. Jordan has lived in many places around the world. These include Nante, France; Oldebroek, the Netherlands; Long Beach, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah. His travels have taken him to over 154 cities in 18 countries across 4 continents. In 2013, Jordan married Angela Kim in Las Vegas.

Jordan is currently studying mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He enjoys building things. He even started a business called Full Composite Racing. Jordan makes special "tips" that speed skaters wear on their fingers. These tips help them balance when they put their left hand on the ice during turns. He uses a very strong material called carbon fiber for these tips. Jordan sells these tips to other skaters and supplies many members of the national team.

Jordan also enjoys spending time with his puppy, Oly. Oly is a West Highland Terrier and even went with Jordan to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Jordan also likes to play paintball, a sport he has enjoyed since he was 13. He recently became a certified Scuba Diver too.

Jordan's Inline Speed Skating Career

Jordan started inline speed skating in 1990 when he was 5 years old. He took part in his first international race in 1995. By 2000, he made his first World Team. He became a professional skater the next year. In 2001, he was known as the most successful junior skater ever. In 2003, he was the fastest man in the world, winning the Senior World Championships.

Jordan left inline skating with 8 Junior and 6 Senior World Championship titles. He also skated for professional teams like Rollerblade, Inc. and Mogema WIC (World Inline Cup) from 2001 to 2004.

Jordan gives a lot of credit to his mother for helping him succeed. She taught him important life lessons, like paying attention to details. She also drove him for years to practices and competitions. This included a two-hour trip to Waco, Texas every weekend. She even helped him train by pacing him on her moped while he skated behind her.

Injuries in Inline Skating

In 2002, Jordan faced two serious injuries while inline skating. First, he slipped during a warm-up. His left foot hit the boards and twisted, causing a spiral fracture. He had to wear a walking cast for four months. During this time, he could only train by riding a bike or running in water.

Just two weeks after he recovered, another accident happened. Jordan tripped over a timing wire during a race. He hit his head on a timing device that had no padding. When he woke up in a hospital in Switzerland, he learned he had broken his upper jaw and lost four teeth. He had four plates and 16 screws put in his head to fix his jaw.

After this, Jordan thought about quitting. But he quickly realized that skating was what he loved to do. He decided to keep going.

Jordan's Short Track Speed Skating Career

Jordan switched to Short track speed skating in 2004. Since then, he has been the only U.S. skater to compete in all 5 World Championships from 2005 to 2009. This made 2009 his 10th straight U.S. World Championship, counting both inline and ice skating. He is the first male skater to qualify for both Inline and Short Track World Teams in a row. In five years, he won many World titles, including 6 World Championship medals. This includes a gold medal in the Men's Relay in 2009. In 2007, he finished 7th overall at the ISU World Championships. In 2008, he was ranked 5th in the 1500m and 6th in the 1000m in the ISU World Cup Overall standings.
