José María Hurtado Ruiz-Tagle (born March 5, 1945 – died September 24, 2018) was a Chilean politician. He was a member of the National Renewal (RN) party. Hurtado Ruiz-Tagle served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile from 1990 to 1998.

José María Hurtado Ruiz-Tagle was born on March 5, 1945, in Santiago, Chile. He went to high school at Colegio San Ignacio. Later, he studied at the Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV). He graduated as a Performance Engineer in Fisheries. This means he learned about fishing and how to manage related businesses.
In 1986, he became the mayor of Palmilla, a town where he lived. A mayor is the leader of a city or town. He stopped being mayor in 1989. This was because he wanted to run for a new job: a deputy.
Political Career
A deputy is a person elected to represent people in a country's parliament. José María Hurtado ran for the National Renewal party. He was elected to represent District #32, which included Santa Cruz and Pichilemu. His first term as a deputy was from 1990 to 1994.
He was elected again for a second term, which lasted from 1994 to 1998. During these years, he worked in the Chamber of Deputies of Chile. This is an important part of Chile's government where laws are made.
Other Activities
Besides his political work, José María Hurtado was involved in other activities. He was a member of the Rodeo Club of Santa Cruz. He even served as the president of this club. He was also the vice president of the National Federation of Chilean Rodeo. Rodeo is a traditional sport in Chile involving horses and cattle.
