Joutsa is a small town, also called a municipality, in Finland. It is located in the middle part of Finland, in an area known as Central Finland. The city of Jyväskylä is about 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of Joutsa.
Joutsa is home to about 4,079 people. It covers a total area of 1,066.42 square kilometres (411.75 sq mi) (1,066.42 square miles (2,762.0 km2)). A big part of this area, 199.25 km2 (76.93 sq mi) (199.25 sq mi (516.1 km2)), is covered by water. This means there are many lakes!
The people in Joutsa speak Finnish. On January 1, 2008, another nearby municipality called Leivonmäki joined with Joutsa. Joutsa is also known for its special local drink called Joutsan sahti.

Joutsa is surrounded by several other municipalities. These include Hartola, Hirvensalmi, Jyväskylä, Kangasniemi, Luhanka, Pertunmaa, and Toivakka.
Lakes and Waterways
Joutsa is a place with lots of water. There are 192 lakes in the area! The three biggest lakes are Puula, Suontee, and Jääsjärvi. These lakes are great for enjoying nature and water activities.
Leivonmäki National Park
A special place in Joutsa is the Leivonmäki National Park. This park is a wonderful example of Finnish nature. You can find different types of landscapes here, including swamps, sandy beaches, and beautiful forests that grow on long, narrow hills called eskers. It's a perfect spot for hiking and exploring.
