Juan Silveira dos Santos (born on February 1, 1979), known simply as Juan, is a Brazilian former professional footballer. He played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football.
Juan started his career with the Brazilian club Flamengo. He then spent ten years playing in Europe for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and Roma in Italy. After that, he returned to Brazil to play for Internacional in 2012.
Juan also played for the Brazilian national team. He played in 79 matches and scored seven goals for his country. He represented Brazil in two FIFA World Cups, three FIFA Confederations Cups, and three Copa América tournaments. He won the FIFA Confederations Cup twice and the Copa América twice.
Today, Juan works as a coordinator for the Brazil national football team.

Juan's Club Journey
Starting at Flamengo
Juan was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He began his football journey playing for Flamengo for six years. This was his first professional club.
Playing in Europe
In 2002, Juan moved to Europe to play for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. He played there for five years and scored ten goals. In 2007, he moved to Roma in Italy. Roma paid about €6.3 million for him.
Time at Roma
Juan played for Roma from 2007 to 2012. During his time there, he scored 11 goals in over 140 games. He helped Roma win the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. Juan was a key player in defense and wore the number four jersey.
He scored his first goal for Roma in September 2007 against Reggina. In the 2011–12 season, he often played alongside Gabriel Heinze. He scored three goals that season, including one in a big 4–0 win against Internazionale. Overall, he scored nine goals for Roma.
Back to Brazil
On July 16, 2012, Juan and Roma agreed to end his contract early. On the same day, Juan signed a two-year contract with Internacional in Brazil.
Returning to Flamengo
On November 11, 2015, Juan also ended his contract with Internacional. A month later, on December 8, 2015, Juan confirmed he was returning to his first club, Flamengo.
Juan announced he would retire from playing football after winning the 2019 Campeonato Carioca with Flamengo. His last match was on April 27, 2019, in Flamengo's 3–1 win over Cruzeiro.
Juan's International Career
Juan was a very important player for the Brazilian national team. He helped Brazil win the Copa América in 2004 and 2007. He also won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005 and 2009.
In the 2004 Copa América Final against Argentina, Juan scored the winning goal in the penalty shootout. In 2007, he scored the first goal in a 6–1 win against Chile in the quarter-finals of the Copa América.
On June 28, 2010, Juan scored the first goal for Brazil against Chile in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Brazil won that game 3–0 and moved on to the quarter-finals.
