Big Wins and Achievements
Julián Berrendero had many important wins during his career. His most famous achievements include winning the Vuelta a España twice. The Vuelta a España is one of the three biggest cycling races in the world, similar to the Tour de France.
Winning the Vuelta a España
Julián won the Vuelta a España in 1941 and again in 1942. Winning this tough race once is a huge accomplishment, but winning it two times in a row shows how strong and talented he was. In 1941, he won two stages (parts of the race) and took home the overall victory. The next year, in 1942, he won two more stages and also won the Mountains classification. This means he was the best climber in the race that year.
Tour de France Success
Before his big wins in Spain, Julián also competed in the Tour de France, which is the most famous cycling race in the world. In 1936, he won the polka dot jersey. This special jersey is given to the best climber in the Tour de France. It means he was the fastest rider up the steepest hills. He finished 11th overall in that race, which was a great result for a climber. He also won a stage in the 1937 Tour de France.
Spanish National Championships
Julián Berrendero was also a champion in his home country. He won the Spanish National Road Race Championship three times in a row, from 1942 to 1944. Cyclo-cross is a type of bike racing that involves riding on different terrains, like mud, grass, and sand, and sometimes carrying the bike over obstacles.
