Kagiso Rabada (born 25 May 1995) is a famous South African cricket player. He is known as a right-arm fast bowler and plays in all types of cricket games. He started playing international cricket in November 2014. By January 2018, when he was just 22 years old, he became the top-ranked bowler in both One Day International (ODI) and Test cricket. In July 2018, he was the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets in Test matches.
Kagiso Rabada has won many awards. In July 2016 and again in June 2018, he won six awards at Cricket South Africa's annual dinner, including the top prize for Cricketer of the Year. In August 2018, Wisden, a famous cricket magazine, called him the best young player in the world. He has even taken a special achievement called a "hat-trick" in all three types of cricket games!

Kagiso Rabada: A Cricket Star
Early Days in Domestic Cricket
Kagiso Rabada started his professional cricket journey playing for the Gauteng team in December 2013. This was in a competition called the CSA Provincial One-Day Competition.
Shining in the Under-19 World Cup
Rabada was chosen to play for South Africa's Under-19 team in the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. South Africa won this tournament, and Rabada was one of their best players. He took 14 wickets, which means he got 14 batters out. He also had the best bowling figures in the tournament, taking 6 wickets for only 25 runs against Australia A. Because of his amazing performance, people called him "the fastest and most feared bowler" in the competition.
His great playing in the Under-19 World Cup helped him join the Lions team for their last two games of the season. He took 7 wickets in these matches.
Record-Breaking Performances
In February 2015, Rabada made a new record for the Lions team against the Dolphins. He took 14 wickets in one match, including 9 wickets for only 33 runs in one part of the game. His total of 14 wickets for 105 runs was the best bowling performance in South African franchise cricket history.
In February 2016, Rabada signed a short contract to play for Kent County Cricket Club in England. He chose this over a contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to get more experience playing in English conditions. He played in two County Championship matches and six T20 matches for Kent.
Playing in Top Cricket Leagues
Rabada has played for several teams in popular T20 leagues around the world.
- In February 2017, the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) bought him for a lot of money for the 2017 Indian Premier League.
- He was bought again by Delhi in 2018 but couldn't play that season due to a back injury.
- In the 2019 Indian Premier League, he took 25 wickets, becoming the second-highest wicket-taker that season. He helped Delhi Capitals reach the playoffs for the first time since 2012.
- In the 2020 Indian Premier League, he was the top wicket-taker, getting 30 wickets in 17 matches. He played a very important role in his team's success.
- In the 2022 IPL auction, the Punjab Kings bought him.
- In April 2023, he took his 100th IPL wicket in his 64th match, becoming the fastest bowler to reach this milestone in the IPL.
- He also played for Jozi Stars in the Mzansi Super League in 2018 and 2019.
- More recently, he joined MI Cape Town in 2023 and MI New York in 2023.
International Cricket Journey
Kagiso Rabada made his first international appearance for South Africa in a Twenty20 International match against Australia on 5 November 2014.
ODI and Test Debut
His One Day International (ODI) debut was on 10 July 2015, against Bangladesh. In this match, he took an amazing 6 wickets for only 16 runs! He also became only the second player ever to take a hat-trick (three wickets in three balls) on his ODI debut.
Rabada made his Test debut for South Africa against India on 5 November 2015. In a Test match against England in 2016, he took 13 wickets for 144 runs, helping his team win. He became the youngest South African to take a ten-wicket haul (10 wickets in a match) in a Test.
Rising to the Top
Rabada's first ten-wicket haul in a Test match was in 2016 against England. He took 13 wickets in that match, including two five wicket hauls (5 wickets in one innings). His best bowling figures in an innings were 7 wickets for 112 runs.
In July 2018, during a Test match against Sri Lanka, Rabada became the youngest bowler ever to take 150 wickets in Test cricket. He also reached this milestone faster than most other South African bowlers.
In 2018, he took the most wickets in Tests of any bowler in the world, with 52 wickets. In March 2019, he took his 100th wicket in ODIs against Sri Lanka.
World Cups and Milestones
Rabada was part of South Africa's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. On 6 November 2021, he made history by becoming the first South African bowler to take a hat-trick in T20I cricket against England.
In January 2022, Rabada played his 50th Test match. In August 2022, he took his first five-wicket haul at Lord's, a famous cricket ground in England. This earned him a spot on the special "honours board" there. He is only the fourth South African bowler to achieve this since South Africa rejoined international cricket.
In May 2024, he was again named in South Africa’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
On 21 October 2024, Kagiso Rabada reached another huge milestone: he took his 300th Test wicket against Bangladesh. He is now the 39th bowler in cricket history to achieve this!
Beyond the Cricket Field
In 2020, Kagiso Rabada and Cameron Scott started a production company called Kingdom Kome Productions. Their first project was a short film called "The Ring of Beasts."

Kagiso Rabada comes from a family of professionals. His father is a doctor, and his mother, Florence, is a lawyer. He has Venda and Tswana ancestry.
