Karlie Elizabeth Kloss (born August 3, 1992) is an American model famous for her work in high fashion. She was a Victoria's Secret Angel, a top role for models, from 2013 to 2015. She left to study at New York University. By 2019, she had been on the cover of 40 international Vogue magazines.
Besides modeling, Kloss is very interested in technology. She started a camp called "Kode with Klossy" to help young girls get excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). In 2019, she also became the host of the TV show Project Runway.

Early Life and School
Karlie Elizabeth Kloss was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 3, 1992. Her mother, Tracy Kloss, was a freelance art director, and her father, Kurt Kloss, was an emergency physician. Karlie has an older sister, Kristine, and two younger twin sisters, Kimberly and Kariann.
Her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1994. Kloss went to Webster Groves High School, where she was a cheerleader. She graduated in 2011. In 2015, she started taking classes at New York University.
Modeling Career
2006–2010: How It All Started
Kloss was discovered in 2005 at a local fashion show for charity. When she was 14, she appeared on the cover of Scene Magazine. A top modeling agency, Elite Model Management, saw her photos and signed her.

One of her first jobs was for Abercrombie Kids. In January 2008, she signed with a new agency, Next Management. She became very busy, walking in 31 shows during New York Fashion Week. After New York, she walked in 20 shows in Milan and 13 in Paris, for a total of 64 shows in one season.
Her old agency, Elite, was unhappy she left and started a legal case against Next Management. The companies later settled the issue outside of court. In 2009, Vogue Paris called her one of the "top 30 models of the 2000s."
Kloss has been in many famous magazines, like W, Elle, and many versions of Vogue around the world. She was on the cover of Teen Vogue with other models in 2008 and by herself in 2010.
She also appeared on the TV show Gossip Girl as herself. She became a favorite model, or "muse," for designer John Galliano and appeared in many ads for his brand and for Dior.
2011–2014: Becoming a Star

In 2011, Kloss continued to work with the brand Christian Dior. That same year, she walked in the famous Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time.
In 2012, Kloss was on the September covers of British Vogue, Japanese Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar Russia. She also cut her long hair into a bob, which became known as the "Karlie" haircut. She co-hosted the TV show House of Style on MTV with fellow model Joan Smalls.
In 2013, Kloss was the face of brands like Donna Karan and Lacoste. She also became an ambassador for Coach, Inc..

In 2014, Kloss worked on campaigns for Jean Paul Gaultier, Nike, and Chanel. She also designed a collection of jeans with Frame Denim. She worked with the glasses company Warby Parker to create a line of eyewear. Money from the sales helped a charity called Edible Schoolyard NYC. That September, the makeup company L'Oreal Paris announced Kloss was their new spokesperson.
2015–Present: New Projects
In 2015, Kloss decided to leave Victoria's Secret. She later said she wanted to be a role model that focused on more than just appearance. That year, she appeared on the cover of American Vogue with her friend, singer Taylor Swift. Kloss was also in Swift's music video for the song "Bad Blood".
On July 21, 2015, Kloss started her own YouTube channel called Klossy. She posts weekly videos about her life and answers questions from fans.
In 2017, she appeared on the Netflix show Bill Nye Saves the World. That same year, a photoshoot in Vogue where she was styled as a Japanese geisha caused controversy. People felt it was a form of cultural appropriation. Kloss posted a public apology.
In 2018, Kloss became a global spokesperson for the beauty brand Estée Lauder. She also became the new host and an executive producer for the fashion competition show Project Runway.

Kode With Klossy
Kloss is also a computer programmer. In 2014, she took classes to learn how to code.
In 2015, she started Kode with Klossy. This project offers free two-week summer coding camps for girls aged 13–18. The goal is to teach girls the basics of programming and get them interested in technology. By 2018, the program had 50 camps in 25 U.S. cities, helping over 1,000 girls.
Business and Media
Kloss has also been involved in business. She worked with the restaurant Momofuku Milk Bar to create "Karlie's Kookies." For every tin of cookies sold, money was donated to feed people in need.
In 2020, she was part of a group that bought the fashion magazine W. In 2023, she bought the British fashion magazine i-D and became its CEO. In 2024, she and her husband brought back Life magazine in both print and online.
Personal Life
In 2012, Kloss started dating businessman and investor Joshua Kushner. They got engaged in July 2018. Before the engagement, Kloss converted to Judaism, which is Kushner's religion. They were married on October 18, 2018.
The couple has two sons, born in March 2021 and July 2023. In March 2025, she announced they were expecting their third child.
Through her marriage, Kloss is related to Ivanka Trump, who is married to Kushner's older brother, Jared. Kloss has said she finds it "frustrating" when people focus on her relationships instead of her career.
Kloss is a feminist, which means she believes in equal rights for women. She has said her feminist beliefs were part of the reason she left Victoria's Secret. She has also supported causes like gun control and voting rights.
