Zachary E. Posen (born October 24, 1980) is an American fashion designer. He is known for his beautiful and often dramatic clothing designs.

Early Life and Education

Zachary E. Posen grew up in New York City, in the SoHo area of Manhattan. His mother was a lawyer, and his father was an artist. From a young age, Zac was very interested in fashion. He even used to make tiny ball gowns for dolls!

He went to Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn. While still in high school, he got to work as an intern for fashion designer Nicole Miller. He also won an award for his art and writing. At 16, he studied at Parsons The New School for Design. After high school, he went to London to study fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

While studying, Posen created a special dress made from thin leather strips. This dress was so unique that it was shown at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Fashion Career

Zac Posen's career took off quickly. In 2000, a dress he designed for supermodel Naomi Campbell was seen by many important people in the fashion world. This helped him get noticed.

In 2001, Posen returned to New York and set up his design studio in his parents' living room. He soon got a grant of $20,000 to show his first collection. After his first fashion show, he was approached by leaders from major fashion houses like LVMH and Gucci. This success helped him open his own design studio in Tribeca, New York.

Posen has won awards, including the 2004 Swarovski's Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Many famous people love to wear his designs, including Natalie Portman, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and Claire Danes. His gowns have been seen on red carpets at events like the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

In 2008, Zac Posen worked with Target to create a special, more affordable collection for stores in Australia. Later, in 2014, he partnered with David's Bridal to create "Truly Zac Posen," a line of beautiful and affordable wedding dresses. He also became the Creative Director for Brooks Brothers, helping to update their women's clothing line.

From 2012 to 2018, Posen was a judge on the popular TV show Project Runway, where designers compete to create new fashion.

In October 2016, Delta Air Lines showed new uniforms for their employees, which were designed by Posen.

In a big project, Posen was chosen to redesign the uniforms for Delta Air Lines' 60,000 employees. These new uniforms are now worn by Delta staff, from flight attendants to customer service.

In 2017, Zac Posen even published a cookbook! It has many recipes that he describes as "decadent and inspiring." In 2018, he designed a beautiful blush silk gown for Princess Eugenie of York to wear at her wedding reception.

In 2019, Posen's main fashion label, House of Z, closed down. This happened after one of his biggest clients, Barneys New York, faced financial problems. However, Posen continued to create. In 2021, he released a collection of wedding rings that could be worn by anyone, regardless of gender.

In 2024, Zac Posen took on a new role as the creative director for Gap and chief creative officer for Old Navy. He is helping these big brands create new and exciting clothing lines.
