Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank (/ˈjuːʒəni/ yoo-ZHƏ-nee; born 23 March 1990) is a member of the British royal family. She is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. This makes her a niece of King Charles III. When she was born, she was 6th in line to the British throne. Today, she is 11th in line. She is also the younger sister of Princess Beatrice.
Eugenie was born in Portland Hospital in London. She went to St George's School and Marlborough College. Later, she studied at Newcastle University, where she earned a degree in English literature and art history. She worked at an auction house called Paddle8 before becoming a director at the art gallery Hauser & Wirth. Eugenie also helps many charities, like Children in Crisis and Anti-Slavery International.
In 2018, Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank, who works as a brand ambassador. They have two sons named August and Ernest.

Early Life and Childhood
Eugenie was born in London on 23 March 1990. She was the second child of the Duke and Duchess of York. She was also the sixth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Her parents named her Eugenie Victoria Helena.
She was baptised on 23 December 1990. This was a special event because it was the first time a royal baby had a public christening.
When Eugenie was six years old, her parents divorced. They both agreed to share care of Eugenie and her sister, Beatrice. The Queen helped set up a trust fund for the sisters. Eugenie and Beatrice often traveled with their parents.
In October 2002, when Eugenie was 12, she had back surgery. This was to fix a condition called scoliosis, which is a curve in the spine. Doctors put two 12-inch titanium rods in her back. She recovered completely and did not need more surgeries.
Education and Career Journey
Eugenie started school at Winkfield Montessori in 1992. She then joined her sister at Upton House School until 1995. After that, she attended Coworth Park School and then St George's School near Windsor Castle.
For five years, Eugenie lived and studied at Marlborough College in Wiltshire. She did very well in her exams, getting top grades in art and English literature. After college, she took a year off before going to university in 2009.
In September 2009, Eugenie began studying at Newcastle University. She graduated in 2012 with a good degree in English Literature and History of Art.
In 2013, she moved to New York City for a year. There, she worked for an online auction company called Paddle8. In July 2015, she returned to London. She started working at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery as an associate director. By 2017, she was promoted to director.
Marriage and Family Life
On 22 January 2018, it was announced that Eugenie was engaged to Jack Brooksbank. They had been dating for seven years. Friends first introduced them during a ski trip in Verbier, Switzerland. They got engaged while on vacation in Nicaragua.
In April 2018, the couple moved into Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace. Their wedding took place at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on 12 October 2018.
Eugenie's wedding dress was special. It was designed to show her surgical scar from her scoliosis operation. She chose to show her scar to honor the people who helped her and to inspire others with scoliosis.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have two sons. Their first son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born on 9 February 2021. He was also born at the Portland Hospital in London. At birth, he was eleventh in line to the throne. He was named after his great-grandfather Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and other family members. August was christened on 21 November 2021.
Their second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, was born on 30 May 2023. He was named after his great-great-great-grandfather George V, his grandfather George Brooksbank, and his great-grandfather Major Ronald Ferguson. Ernest is thirteenth in line to the throne.
From November 2020 to May 2022, the family lived mainly at Frogmore Cottage. They now spend time in Portugal and also stay at Ivy Cottage when they are in the UK.
Charity Work and Public Engagements

Princess Eugenie does not receive money from the government for her royal duties. However, she often takes part in public events. These events are usually related to the charities she supports. Some of these include the Teenage Cancer Trust and Children in Crisis. In 2018, Children in Crisis joined with Street Child, another charity that helps children. Eugenie continues to be an ambassador for them.
In 2007, Eugenie and her sister represented their father at a special service for their aunt, Diana, Princess of Wales. In 2008, Eugenie did her first solo public event. She opened a unit for young cancer patients in Leeds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
On 2 June 2011, Eugenie visited the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) with her father. This was one of her first official visits. In April 2012, she became a patron for the hospital's Redevelopment Appeal. A patron is someone who supports a charity. In 2014, Eugenie re-opened the children's unit at the RNOH. She also helped create a special charity bracelet to raise money for the hospital. In March 2019, she became a patron of the RNOH Charity. That same year, she became a patron of Horatio's Garden, a charity that creates gardens for patients in hospitals.
In January 2013, Eugenie and her sister promoted Britain in Germany. In 2016, Eugenie, her mother, and her sister worked with artist Teddy McDonald. They painted a picture called "Royal Love," which was sold to raise money for Children in Crisis. In June 2016, Eugenie and her sister became Patrons of the Teenage Cancer Trust. She also supports other organizations like the Coronet Theatre and the Elephant Family.
In 2017, Eugenie became an ambassador for the Artemis Council of the New Museum. This group supports female artists. In 2018, she became an ambassador for Project 0. This charity works to protect the ocean from plastic pollution.
In July 2018, Eugenie spoke at the NEXUS Global Summit at the UN headquarters in New York. She talked about ending modern slavery. She and Julia de Boinville started the Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017. They became interested in the topic after a trip to Kolkata in 2012. She took part in an art therapy class with people who had survived modern slavery. In June 2022, Eugenie started the Ocean Advocate Series. This series features talks with experts about how to protect the seas and the environment.
On 17 September 2022, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Eugenie joined her sister and six cousins. They stood for 15 minutes around the Queen's coffin as it lay in state at Westminster Hall. On 19 September, she attended the Queen's state funeral.
Titles and Royal Status
As a grandchild of the Queen through her father's side, Eugenie was known as "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York." The "of York" part came from her father's title, Duke of York. After she got married, she became known as "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank."
