Kathryn "Katie" Uhlaender (born July 17, 1984) is an American athlete. She is famous for skeleton racing, a sport where athletes slide head-first down an ice track on a small sled. Katie started competing in 2003. She has won six medals at the FIBT World Championships, including two gold medals in 2012.

Katie Uhlaender's Sports Career
Katie Uhlaender has had a long and successful career in skeleton racing. She won the Skeleton World Cup title twice, first in the 2006-2007 season and again in 2007-2008. She also competed in many Winter Olympics.
Olympic Journeys
Katie has represented the United States in five Winter Olympics.
- At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, she finished sixth in the women's skeleton event.
- For the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Katie had to overcome serious injuries. She had a snowmobile accident in 2009 and shattered her kneecap. She had several surgeries but still managed to qualify and finished 11th.
- She competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where she placed fourth, just missing a medal by a tiny amount of time.
- She also represented the U.S. at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
- Her most recent Olympic appearance was at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, where she finished sixth.
Other Sports and Challenges
Besides skeleton, Katie has also tried other sports. She competed in weightlifting, even trying out for the U.S. Olympic team in 2012. She also took a break from skeleton in 2014-2015 to focus on her health. During this time, she tried track cycling, showing her amazing athletic ability in different areas.
In 2018, Katie spoke to the U.S. Helsinki Commission about fairness in sports. She shared her feelings about how important it is for competitions to be clean and fair for all athletes.
Katie Uhlaender's Personal Life
Katie Uhlaender grew up in Vail, Colorado. While she trains in Breckenridge, Colorado, she lives in McDonald, Kansas for the rest of the year. Her father was Ted Uhlaender, a professional baseball player. To remember him, Katie wears his championship ring from the 1972 Cincinnati Reds baseball team on a necklace.
